Overview: I was due to qualify in July 2020, my OSCE’s have been postponed due to COVID-19, but I finished my studies with consistently high exam results and my NPL is fully signed off. This shows my willingness and commitment to my studies and career.

At Medivet Training College I have been volunteering as the student representative for three years, passing issues and concerns from students on to the teaching faculty and HR department. This role has improved my confidence in presenting myself to others, sometimes in potentially delicate or emotional situations. Within the practice, I inform clients about topics surrounding the health and wellbeing of their pets (e.g. weight clinics and puppy consultations), and I believe that given the opportunity these communication skills can be transferred to educating the clients within nursing consultations.

At points in my career (particularly at Davies Veterinary Specialists) I worked in an environment of very high standards of practice. I have strived to transfer and maintain these standards in my training and ongoing career. While much of my role is currently supervised due to my student status, I am capable of undertaking tasks by myself. For example, I am trusted to work independently when the head veterinary nurse is not in practice. I have attended and contributed to case management meetings to reflect on difficult cases and continually implement best practice as well as improve my own practice.

Working as a veterinary nurse can place you in emotionally challenging situations, so I always strive to conduct myself with professionalism, compassion and good humour. I believe that I have developed good rapport with the client-base at Medivet (and their pets). I would also describe myself as a logical person, and in practice this can mainly be seen in solving practical and organisational problems.
