Overview: olved in emergency medicine. Being a human rescuer for quite a few years with field experience in emergency teams I appreciate the complications of this part of medicine and apart from enjoying it, unlike so many colleagues, I understand it. Now, that I achieved post graduate certificate in Emergency and Critical Care Medicine, I can highlight and solve problems before they develop in most patients coming through my door. I successfully managed septic cases, rare intoxications, surgical emergencies and even extremely rare and complicated emergencies like feline heat stroke, which is not even described in the literature (this was one of the cases I presented during my final oral examination at BSAVA). I have no problems with setting central lines nor thoracic drains, no pericardial effusion is a problem, no trauma patient is underestimated and mistreated. After all in the end, when it comes to discussing the outcome with the family of my patient I always want to say "I did all I could". I am always happy passing my knowledge on to less experienced colleagues. I enjoy watching how a new graduate becomes a competent colleague. All of this makes me proud of who I am and what I do.
