“With European Central Bank interest rates at a record low there’s never been a better time to invest in your practice,” says Alex Darvill, MD of veterinary design and building business ACD Projects. To allow practices to make the most of the opportunity the award winning company will be attending London Vet Show and its team of experts will be offering a free consultation to vets wishing to talk through their ideas, review existing plans, or seek advice on troubleshooting problem builds.

Having been involved in the design and build of hundreds of veterinary practices Alex knows there are often sticking points in any build or refurbishment, “We often see practices struggling to identify how to refurbish a residential building that’s now operating as a practice. Improving the flow and ensuring the quality of the ‘behind the scenes’ facilities match the front of house operation are often key to making these work better. At London Vet Show we’ll be offering help and advice for anyone facing difficult choices over their refurb project or prospective build.”

Another problem area is finance – although repayments on loans are low due to falling interest rates it’s often obtaining the funding that’s the sticking point. It’s a critical step in any build so ACD Projects also provide help with business plans and decision making.

Alex notes that it can sometimes be better and more cost effective to adapt a ‘starter’ business unit than to refurbish an older building, “This often comes as a surprise to many practice owners but because we know what materials and labour should cost and obtain best-value quotes, we can often make quite accurate forecasts. Obtaining funding can be daunting but with a solid plan it’s much easier – and of course right now it’s never been more affordable to take on a loan or more attractive to invest spare cash. This really gives practices the opportunity to build for the future.”

As well as new builds, refurbishments and extensions, ACD Projects can also convert existing out buildings. The company has specialist knowledge in radiation protection and building to accommodate CT Scanners or MRI is a growing area of its business

ACD Projects can be found on Stand E01 at London Vet Show where delegates can benefit from a free consultation. The company operates throughout Europe and also designs and builds animal welfare shelters, so the offer is also appropriate to overseas delegates and those interested in other animal facilities. For those unable to make the event the company is also offering a free, no obligation half day consultation to any UK practice during November and December.
