Highgate Veterinary Clinic, a brand new independent and locally owned business, has opened in Willingham, Cambridgeshire, thanks to a substantial six-figure funding package from NatWest.

The opening of the clinic has been a lifelong vision for local vet and entrepreneur Dr Bridget Adcock. Her aim is to become a vital part of the local community providing top-notch first opinion veterinary services and personalised care to each and every patient. Her team has expertise dealing with more anxious patients with behavioural issues and will strive to promote a welcoming and fear free environment in which animals can be seen.

After having spent almost fifteen years working for corporate veterinary chains and feeling frustrated with inflated pricing and lack of emphasis on patient care, Dr Bridget Adcock has finally had the opportunity to take the leap and bring the vision of her own clinic to life with NatWest backing.

NatWest funded a £275,000 loan that aided in getting Highgate Veterinary Clinic up and running. As well as financial aid, NatWest has provided 24/7 support, employee resources, new systems to support with payroll and contracts, and invaluable advice to help Dr Bridget Adcock start off on her entrepreneurial journey.

Dr Bridget Adcock, Founder of Highgate Veterinary Clinic, added“Since becoming a vet, I’ve always dreamed of having my own clinic and I can’t quite believe that this has now become a reality.

“None of this would have been possible without the help from NatWest, not only from a financial point of view, but also the invaluable support they’ve provided to help me set up the business - without this, I don’t think I would have known where to begin!

“It’s really encouraging to know that there are opportunities out there for small businesses like mine and I’d urge anyone with the same ambitions to reach out to NatWest to see how they can help.”

Dr Adcock aspires to expand the business in the future with the continued support of NatWest. As of October 2023, Highgate Veterinary Clinic has six staff members and aims to double its workforce in the next year, providing more jobs to locals – whether that’s on the veterinary frontline, or in the office behind the scenes.

The clinic currently offers all small animal services including preventative care and wellness assessments and can provide in-depth medical and surgical management of more complex cases on site. The facility is kitted out with the latest equipment including a brand-new state of the art imaging suite, laboratory for testing and operating theatre. But what truly separates Highgate Veterinary clinic apart from other practices in the area is it’s personalised care to the individual patient and expertise dealing with pets suffering with anxieties. The experienced team are all truly passionate about pets and are dedicated to the profession and making a difference to the animals they treat.

Mathew Parkhouse, Relationship Manager, at NatWest, said: “At NatWest, we’re committed to supporting entrepreneurs and helping them make their business goals a reality. When Dr Adcock approached us with her vision to open Highgate Veterinary Clinic, we recognised her passion and potential to bring an exciting, new concept to the local community and we’re delighted to have been able to support with the opening of the business.”
