Woodcroft Veterinary Hospital A&E Service | South Manchester
Are you a Registered Veterinary Nurse who enjoys high-quality inpatient nursing, with the added variety of evening A&E work and occasional daytime shifts?
Based at our multi-disciplinary referral hospital we are offering a unique opportunity for an RVN to join our team in a predominantly inpatient-focused role, working within a structured, supportive and well-resourced environment.
The Role:
This position is primarily centred on delivering exceptional inpatient nursing care, with additional exposure to:
- Evening A&E support – assisting with emergency admissions and urgent cases
- Daytime shifts – supporting medical and surgical referral cases
You will be involved throughout the patient’s hospital journey, with a strong focus on continuity of care and maintaining high clinical standards for hospitalised patients.
The Rota – Structured & Predictable:
Average 29.5 hours per week
This role follows a clear 4-week rolling rota:
- Weeks 1 & 3: Monday–Friday, 4:00pm – 10:00pm
- Weeks 2 & 4: Two daytime shifts, 8:00am – 7:00pm (ideally Friday alongside one other weekday, though flexibility can be discussed)
Weekend rota:
- 1 in 4 weekends
- Saturday & Sunday, 1:00pm – 11:00pm
- Inpatient care focused
There is no sole charge. You will always be supported by two other RVNs, alongside student nurses and a reception team. Evening shifts are fixed to ensure consistency, while daytime shifts may offer some flexibility where possible.
We are open to considering alternative shift patterns for the right candidate.

Our Team
You’ll be working alongside amazing colleagues. Our evening nurses are predominantly permanent A&E nurses, meaning they are highly experienced, knowledgeable, and very supportive. The A&E team is passionate about the work they do and prides itself on collaborative working.
A proactive member of the nursing team helps to bring everyone together by organising social events, sharing a monthly A&E newsletter, coordinating clinical clubs and M&M meetings, and continually encouraging the delivery of gold‑standard care wherever possible.
About You
We are looking for an RVN who is:
- Qualified and RCVS registered
- Experienced in small animal practice (inpatient experience desirable)
- Confident working within a hospital environment
- Calm, organised, and detail-focused
- A strong communicator and team player
- Passionate about delivering high standards of inpatient nursing care
If you have a strong interest in medicine and ECC, are confident, motivated, and keen to develop your skills we’d love to hear from you. Hospital experience is welcome but not essential. We actively encourage CPD and support nurses who are enthusiastic about pushing their abilities and continuing to grow professionally.
Key Responsibilities
- Nursing A&E and hospitalised inpatients
- Assisting with diagnostics, surgical procedures and anaesthesia monitoring
- Delivering high quality inpatient care
- Supporting medical and surgical referral work from cardiology to ophthalmology
- Communicating effectively with colleagues, including admissions and discharges
- Work collaboratively within the multi-disciplinary teams.
