The Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a Registered Veterinary Nurse to join a friendly, dedicated ophthalmology referral practice in Sutton Weaver, Cheshire. The successful candidate will be part of a large, supportive team of 8 RVNs and 2 Patient Care Assistants, working alongside experienced ophthalmologists and anaesthetists.

The role is focused solely on clinical work — no reception duties — allowing you to concentrate on delivering exceptional nursing care. You’ll rotate through varied areas including prep, theatre, recovery, procedures, and consultations.

While prior ophthalmology experience is not required, experience in a referral setting and familiarity with advanced monitoring equipment (capnography, multiparameter monitors, ventilators) would be advantageous. Full training will be provided.

Key Responsibilities

Provide high-quality patient care across all areas of the practice

Admit and discharge patients, administer perioperative medications

Assist with induction and monitoring of anaesthesia

Prepare patients for surgery, assist in theatre and during recovery

Clean, maintain, and care for surgical instruments

Support gold-standard clinical care and uphold patient safety standards

The team treats a wide variety of small animals and even supports off-site cases, including those from Chester Zoo. With a culture of collaboration, clinical excellence, and teaching, the practice provides a supportive and engaging workplace.
