Are you an experienced, forward-thinking RVN looking to develop your leadership skills in a dynamic, fast-paced hospital environment?
We are seeking a passionate and skilled Deputy Head Veterinary Nurse to join a supportive clinical team on a 12-month maternity cover contract. This role is primarily clinical, ‘on the floor,’ and perfect for a nurse who thrives in a high-case-load, hands-on environment.
About the Role:
As Deputy Head Nurse, you will:
- Lead by example and coordinate the nursing team in collaboration with veterinary surgeons
- Be a point of contact for clinical queries and urgent issues
- Support the Head Nurse with team meetings, inductions, and staff development
- Mentor and coach the nursing team, promoting continuous clinical education
- Assist with implementing and updating clinical protocols and procedures
Who We’re Looking For:
- Qualified RVN with 3–4+ years’ experience, preferably with a medical focus
- Previous experience in a senior or supervisory role is desirable
- Strong communication, organisational, and leadership skills
- Enthusiastic team player with a passion for clinical excellence

- 24-hour veterinary hospital with advanced facilities including in-house CT, MRI, dental x-ray, hydrotherapy, physiotherapy, and isolation units
- High caseload of emergency, critical care, soft tissue, and orthopaedic surgeries
- Dedicated wards for cats, dogs, and exotics
- Accredited for advanced pain management and anaesthesia
The Package:
- Salary up to £36,000 per annum (DOE)
- 4-day week with 1:4 Saturday rotation
