Head Veterinary Nurse

A well-established small animal practice is seeking a passionate and experienced Head Veterinary Nurse to lead its dedicated nursing team. This is an excellent opportunity for a confident and motivated Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) looking to take the next step into a leadership role while remaining actively involved in clinical work.
The Role
The Head Veterinary Nurse will play a key role in the day-to-day running of the practice, combining clinical responsibilities with leadership and team development. The successful candidate will oversee nursing operations, support high clinical standards, and help foster a positive and collaborative working environment.
The role includes participation in a wider network rota, including 1 in 6 full weekends at a 24-hour hospital, two weeks of on-call cover per year, and occasional bank holiday cover.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality patient care, including nurse-led consultations and Schedule 3 procedures
- Support veterinary surgeons during consultations, surgeries, and diagnostics
- Monitor patients and manage admissions and discharges
- Lead, mentor, and develop the nursing team, including student nurses
- Manage nurse rotas, workflow, and training to ensure smooth practice operations
- Maintain compliance with all regulatory and clinical standards
- Contribute to a positive client experience through excellent communication and care
