An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Head RVN to lead the nursing team and help drive clinical excellence within a busy, growing small animal practice in Liverpool.
This role is ideal for an RVN who leads by example, enjoys mentoring others, and understands the importance of consistency, accountability, and attention to detail. Working alongside the Practice Manager and Veterinary Surgeons, you will oversee day-to-day nursing operations, create a positive working culture, and support individual professional growth across nurses, student nurses, VCAs, and support staff.
📋 Position Details:
- Hours: Full-time
- Key Responsibilities: Day-to-day nursing team management, rota creation/management, workflow monitoring, conducting team meetings & 1-to-1 check-ins, supporting appraisals and performance reviews, maintaining infection control standards, and implementing clinical protocols/SOPs.
💰 Pay & Benefits:
- Salary: £35,000 – £40,000 per annum (depending on experience)
- CPD: Generous CPD allowance
- Professional Fees: Paid RCVS and VDS memberships
- Benefits: Contributory pension scheme and supportive leadership environment
👤 Candidate Requirements:
- Essential:
- Active RCVS registration as a Registered Veterinary Nurse.
- Minimum of 5 years' post-qualification nursing experience.
- Previous leadership, supervisory, or senior nursing experience in a busy small animal practice.
- Strong skills in anaesthesia, surgery, and inpatient nursing.
- Proven organisational skills and staff rota management experience.
- Desirable:
- Clinical Coach qualification.
- Experience with nurse consultations, schedule utilisation, SOP implementation, and recruitment/appraisals.
