GVC are delighted to be assisting a leading university with the recruitment of a Registered Veterinary Nurse to join their dedicated Neutering Clinic.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced RVN who enjoys teaching, mentoring and supporting veterinary students while maintaining the highest standards of patient care and welfare.
The role will see you working alongside academic, veterinary and technical staff, supporting fourth-year veterinary students as they take direct responsibility for all aspects of routine neutering procedures, including anaesthesia, surgery, post-operative care, clinical documentation and patient discharge.
The Role
As the RVN within the Spay & Neuter Clinic, you will supervise a group of up to 8 undergraduate veterinary students, providing practical guidance and hands-on support throughout the day.
You will play an important role in ensuring students gain valuable clinical experience while ensuring every patient receives excellent care.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supervising students undertaking anaesthesia, surgery and post-operative care.
- Assisting with and supervising anaesthesia.
- Supporting students throughout routine neutering procedures.
- Providing verbal and written feedback to students.
- Supporting the safe and appropriate discharge of patients to their owners.
- Working closely with veterinary colleagues and practice staff.
- Helping ensure suitable patients are booked for the weekly neutering clinics.
- Maintaining excellent standards of animal care, welfare and clinical safety.
- Supporting stock control and weekly ordering.
- Checking the clinic diary and communicating with the Head RVN.
Daily Responsibilities
You will be involved in the full preparation, running and close-down of the neutering clinic, including:
- Preparing equipment and supplies for the clinic.
- Setting up the preparation and theatre areas.
- Preparing fluids, surgical kits, drapes and other equipment.
- Preparing kennels for inpatients.
- Assisting and supervising students with anaesthesia, surgery and post-operative care.
- Assisting veterinary colleagues where required.
- Supervising student discharges and providing constructive feedback.
- Cleaning, checking and packing surgical kits.
- Cleaning the preparation and theatre areas between procedures.
- Completing end-of-day theatre and prep area cleaning and shutdown.
- Cleaning kennels, bowls and clinical areas with support from students.
- Maintaining stock levels and placing weekly orders.
- Communicating with the Head RVN regarding bookings and clinic requirements.
About You
We are looking for an RVN who is confident working within a clinical environment and is passionate about supporting and developing veterinary students.
You will ideally have:
- Registered Veterinary Nurse status.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- The ability to coach, mentor and encourage students.
- Strong organisational and prioritisation skills.
- Good leadership skills and the confidence to supervise groups of students.
- A proactive and supportive approach to teaching and learning.
- Experience or familiarity with a practice management system.
- A strong commitment to animal welfare and high standards of patient care.
