Veterinary Surgeon – Independent Hospital Team – £40,000–£60,000
A well-established independent small animal group is looking for an experienced Veterinary Surgeon to join a large, friendly, highly supportive team with excellent facilities and genuine clinical freedom.
The practice
You’ll be joining a respected, long-standing independent set-up combining traditional values with modern clinical standards, across multiple sites including a purpose-built hospital opened in July 2023. The team includes 18 vets, 15 RVNs, plus a strong, experienced support team.
Facilities include:
- Dedicated orthopaedic theatre
- DR X-ray, dental suite, endoscopy
- Advanced ultrasound + cardiology diagnostics
- Separate dog/cat/exotics wards
The role
- 4-day week with a fixed weekday off
- Typically 3 long days (8–7) + 1 shorter day (8–5)
- 15-minute consults (8:00–18:30)
- Surgery included (operating two mornings per week)
- No phone-based out-of-hours
Initially you’ll work between the hospital and a main branch; other branch work may become available later but isn’t essential to start.
Out-of-hours / rota (inpatient-focused)
OOH relates solely to inpatients and is shared across the wider vet team. Commitments average around 1-in-4 overall, with a strong balance of protected time off (including a high proportion of weekends fully free).
What they’re looking for
- Ideally an experienced small animal GP vet (beyond new graduate stage)
- Confident with routine consults and surgery, and enjoys being part of a collaborative team
- Interest in Internal Medicine and/or Diagnostic Imaging welcomed (not essential)
What they can offer
- £40,000–£60,000 DOE
- 5 weeks’ annual leave + bank holidays (plus unpaid leave option if needed)
- CPD £2,000+ and 5 days annually

- Enhanced pay for inpatient/out-of-hours work (typically £3k–£6k extra per year)
