Equine Vet – Out of Hours Role with Exceptional Work-Life Balance
Cambridgeshire
What if you could earn a full-time salary while working just half the year?
If that sounds like the dream, we may have just the role for you.
We’re offering a rare opportunity to join the friendly and supportive team at Fellowes Equine in a dedicated out-of-hours position. We’re looking for an experienced Equine Vet to share our OOH first-call rota on a week-on, week-off basis, alternating with our current OOH Vet. You’ll always have the support of a second on-call vet for backup, so you’re never on your own.
About the Role:
50% first-call out-of-hours rota
Week on / week off schedule
On-call hours: Monday to Thursday 4:30pm–8:30am; Friday 4:30pm–Monday 8:30am; includes bank holidays
Opportunities for additional locum day work, if desired
Full-time salary for working half the year
While this is an OOH position, you’ll still be a valued part of the full practice team—collaborating with a knowledgeable and supportive group of vets, including several RCVS certificate holders..
Facilities include:
Stabling and knock-down box/surgical suite
Clinic room with stocks
Digital radiography, ultrasound, and videoscopes
Remote access to our PMS
Tech-enabled admin support with bespoke mobile apps for bookings, rota management, and holiday requests
What We’re Looking For:
We’re seeking a motivated and capable equine vet with a passion for delivering excellent care. Certificate holders or those working towards certification are welcomed and encouraged, but a great fit for the team matters more than qualifications alone.
This role is ideal for someone looking to maintain a rewarding clinical career while enjoying unparalleled work-life balance.
What We Offer:
Salary: £45,000–£50,000 (dependent on experience)
Week-on, week-off rota – 26 weeks off per year!
1 week holiday allowance (plus flexibility to arrange extended breaks by swapping duties)
Health Shield – contributions for a wide range of treatments from dentistry to sports massage
RCVS + 2 additional memberships paid
VDS cover
Enhanced maternity, paternity, adoption, and shared parental leave
Discounted veterinary fees
My Perks – discounts on shopping, travel, and entertainment
Cycle to Work scheme
Company sick pay
Generous CPD support and training opportunities
Annual pay reviews
Regular team engagement surveys
Focus on wellbeing and career progression
If you’re looking for a role that offers both clinical challenge and the freedom to enjoy life outside of work, this is the perfect opportunity. Come and join a forward-thinking, genuinely supportive team—where your wellbeing and professional development matter.
