Independent practice. 4 day week. No night work.
If you love being a vet but not the burnout…
If you are passionate about small animal practice but tired of feeling overstretched, unheard, or stuck on a treadmill of endless nights, this could be the reset you have been looking for.
The Opportunity
We are working with an independently owned small animal practice in Cardiff, that has built its reputation on doing things properly. Not rushed. Not corporate. Not numbers driven. Just good medicine, supported clinicians, and a genuinely collaborative team.
They believe great patient care starts with happy vets. That means realistic diaries, proper lunch breaks, modern facilities, and leadership that actually listens. They are growing steadily and looking for a Veterinary Surgeon who wants to be part of something progressive and people focused.
This is not about filling a gap. They are looking for someone who wants to develop, contribute ideas, and enjoy coming to work. Whether you are consolidating your confidence or ready to push your clinical boundaries, you will be supported every step of the way.
Why This Role Is Different
A 4 Day Week That Stays a 4 Day Week
The role is 40 hours a week, across 4 days, with a fair share of weekends and no night work. The practice provides its own 24 hour care with a dedicated out of hours team, so when you finish, you genuinely finish.
Proper Clinical Variety
You will handle first opinion consultations, routine and non routine surgery, medical case management, and emergency presentations. The caseload is varied and interesting, giving you room to build surgical confidence while still enjoying continuity with your patients.
State of the Art, Independently Owned
This is a modern, well equipped clinic with advanced diagnostic and surgical facilities, allowing you to work cases up properly. Because they are independent, decisions are made in house, with clinical standards leading the way.
A Team That Has Each Other’s Backs
You will be working alongside an experienced, friendly team who genuinely enjoy what they do. Paid lunch breaks are the norm. Support is practical, not just promised. Humour is welcome. Questions are encouraged. Nobody is left to struggle alone.
Your Journey Here
In Your First Month
You will focus on settling in, understanding systems, and building relationships with the team. You will have the space to ask questions, get comfortable with the equipment, and find your rhythm.
By Month Three
You will be confidently managing your own caseload, performing routine surgery independently, and leaning into areas you particularly enjoy. CPD plans will be in place, aligned with your clinical interests.
By Month Six
You will feel like a core part of the team. Perhaps you are starting a certificate, refining a surgical skill, or helping shape how certain cases are managed. Your voice will be heard and valued.
