Lead with purpose. Shape people. Deliver accessible veterinary care that genuinely matters.
When Leadership Means More Than a Title
If you are an experienced vet who enjoys mentoring others, shaping standards, and still wants a varied clinical caseload, this role offers the chance to lead without losing what made you a vet in the first place. It is for someone who wants their decisions, values, and compassion to have a real impact on both people and pets.
The Opportunity
We are working with a 24 hour veterinary hospital in Ellesmere Port, that has built its entire model around one clear purpose: making high quality veterinary care accessible to the community. This is a non profit, values driven organisation where clinical decisions are guided by patient welfare, transparency, and fairness, not targets for profit alone.
This Lead Veterinary Surgeon role is about more than being the most senior clinician on site. You will guide, support, and develop a team of vets, embedding strong clinical standards while creating a calm, caring, and psychologically safe working environment. Alongside the Practice Manager and Lead Nurse, you will help shape the direction of the hospital, balancing excellent medicine with sustainable operations.
Success here looks like a confident, supported vet team, consistent clinical standards across the hospital, and a culture where people feel listened to, developed, and proud of the care they provide.
Why This Role Is Different
Leadership With Real Influence
You will coach and mentor vets day to day, lead clinical governance meetings, and carry out meaningful one to ones. This is hands on leadership, not box ticking.
Purpose Led Clinical Work
Free consultations and transparent pricing remove barriers to care. That means you see pets that genuinely need help, and you can focus on doing the right thing clinically.
A True Leadership Trio
You will work closely with an established Practice Manager and Lead Nurse, sharing responsibility for culture, performance, and decision making rather than carrying it alone.
Exposure to the Bigger Picture
You will be involved in reviewing KPIs and P&L performance. Business acumen is welcomed, not required, and support is in place if this is an area you want to grow into.
Your Journey Here
In your first month, you will focus on building trust with the vet team, understanding hospital workflows, and embedding yourself into the leadership group. You will get to know how clinical governance works in practice and where your strengths will add the most value.
By three months, you will be confidently leading meetings, supporting vets with case management and development plans, and contributing to operational discussions around performance and efficiency.
By six months, you will be a key driver of clinical standards and culture, with a strong voice in how the hospital evolves. If you are pursuing or planning VetGDP, this role actively supports that journey.
