“We have just been awarded the Pets ‘Vet team of the Year’ award and for good reason, we really do have something unique here, and we are so excited to share that; and find someone special to join us on our incredible journey.” Vic Haymes, RVN and Practice Manager.
Having very recently won Vets4Pets ‘Team of the Year’, our busy, RCVS practice standards accredited GP practice in St Austell is expanding, and is now seeking an additional vet to join us!
The practice has gone from strength to strength since opening in 2016 and is now an extremely successful business, providing a first-class service to our loyal client base. This is all down to our teams’ hard work and we’re all super proud to have a really low colleague turnover, with many of our team having been with us for several years.
Owner and Vet Terry, qualified from Onderstepoort, University of Pretoria in 2001 and is a very experienced Joint Venture Partner and GP Vet, having worked in Cornwall for over 15 years.
In joining Terry and his team, you’ll be working alongside an experienced and stable team of 2.5 vets, 1 of whom is studying for a Small Animal Medicine Certificate. We have an exceptional and loyal team of 2.5 RVNs, 1 VCA, 1 student Nurse and a 4 strong front of house team, all supported by our Practice Manager Vic who is also a qualified RVN and Mental Health First Aider.
Our team work closely together and always support each other - “when it counts, we all come together and work really well, no matter which different combination of people make up the team on the day.” Denise, RVN.
Our days are well structured with consults given 15 minutes as standard (based on the teams’ individual preferences) and with time for breaks, emergencies, admin and lunch all factored into your day. We also get together every morning for a daily ‘natter’, as well as holding a quarterly team meeting and regular informal check-ins.
As this role is about expanding our brilliant team and what we can offer our clients, we’re happy to be flexible and consider a variety of hours. Ideally, we’d be looking for between 22-30 hours a week with some Saturdays, but if these hours don’t quite suit you and you’re looking for a rota and role that works around your existing responsibilities and/or hobbies, then we’d still love to hear from you and would be happy to talk about your preferred hours.
In joining our team and supporting a great community and client base, we are looking for a colleague with solid GP experience, a team player with great communication skills and someone that shares our passion for providing the highest level of veterinary care. This is a great place for you to grow and whilst we can’t consider new graduates at this time, we do have excellent and friendly mentors to help you along the way.
By joining us, you will be part of a supportive and welcoming team, in addition to:
- Starting salary around £50,000 dependant on experience, plus paid overtime!
- No out of hours or Sundays
- Paid holiday of 28 days (5.6 weeks), rising to 33 days (6.6 weeks) after 2 years of service
- Paid professional memberships including RCVS and BVA
- Dedicated and very generous CPD allowance and time off including funding towards Certificates after 1 year in service
- Life assurance 4 x annual salary
- Contributory pension scheme
- Cycle to work scheme
- Colleague reward hub – exclusive offers and discounts online and on the high street, including 20% off at Pets at Home, Vets4Pets and the Groom Room.
The practice itself is purpose built to industry leading standards and has all the equipment you’d expect from a thriving GP practice which includes a separate cat and dog waiting area, 2 consult rooms and an x-ray room/nurse consult room. We have an exciting expansion in the planning for 2024/25.
Not only are we extremely proud of our practice and our team, we work in an enviable part of the country, in one of the largest towns in Cornwall, with a great community spirit, local amenities and the beautiful coastal and country views of Cornwall only ever a short drive away.
We want our colleagues to be as diverse as our clients. Our teams are inclusive and celebrate difference so if you meet our role requirements, we’d love to hear from you.
