We are recruiting for a Veterinary Surgeon with advanced skill set or leadership interest to join our team.
Gilmoor Vets are a three-site small animal and exotic practice in Durham, Sunderland, and Spennymoor.
We are looking for an amazing vet to join our collaborative team working with an increasing and varied caseload. Our practice has an open and inclusive culture which recognises the unique skills that every vet can offer if provided with the right support and freedom to thrive.
The Role:
We are ideally looking for a Senior Veterinary Surgeon however, we are also open to hearing from experienced Veterinary Surgeons who are looking to take the next step in their career within a supportive and progressive practice.
This role carries scope for growth of your career within an area of clinical interest or towards building skillset in non-clinical leadership. You can help build our team with a certificate funded in an area you are passionate about, or join existing Vets with interests in exotics, feline, dermatology, advanced medicine, soft tissue, and orthopaedic surgery.
Our ideal candidate brings their passion for veterinary work and looks to develop this and share it with others, mentorship of developing team members is something we do together as a team. We work towards a collaborative care mindset which involves all members of the veterinary team, the pet owner and the animals in our care to reach the best outcomes for each individual circumstance.
Hours/Rota
Work life balance is supported by options for a wide range of full-time or part-time hours (flexible options including school hour working and even working in blocks with larger gaps between) We do all these things!
- Full-time role is four 9-hour days plus one weekend in four (Saturday only)
- No on call – OOH work is limited to in-patient only care in circumstances where these cannot be appropriately transferred to our OOH providers (rare)
**Salary range based on an average 40hr week or Pro- rata
Senior Vet
£60,000 - £72,000 (experienced and with further skills supporting the business in a management capacity.)
Experienced Vet
£50,000- £67,000 depending on skillset and additional qualifications such as post graduate qualifications/ VetGDP advisor etc.

Gilmoorvets is based in the beautiful cathedral city of Durham with close access to the large vibrant cultural hub of Newcastle upon Tyne. For wider explorations Durham is conveniently placed on the A1(M) motorway and East coast mainline between London and Edinburgh. International access is provided via both Newcastle and Durham Tees Valley airports and Ferry access to Europe (Newcastle to Amsterdam)
We are ideally situated for those who like to adventure in nature with several National parks within 1-2 hours (Lake District, Northumberland, North York Moors and Yorkshire dales) and an outstanding coastline within easy reach.
