Lead with purpose. Shape clinical standards. Enjoy balance without on call.

If You're Ready for Leadership Without Losing Yourself

If you're craving a role where you can influence clinical standards, support a growing team, and still have a life outside of work, this could be the change you have been waiting for. If you want to lead with clarity and empathy rather than burn yourself out holding everything together, you will feel right at home here.

The Opportunity

We are working with a respected first opinion practice in the Rutland area that has built something genuinely meaningful. This is a place where clinical quality matters, where teamwork is not a buzzword, and where vets are supported to grow rather than stretched thin.

They are looking for a Lead Veterinary Surgeon who wants to partner with their Clinical Director, guide a committed team, and help shape the next chapter of the practice as they continue to expand, including the move to a new hospital supported by a dedicated night team in 2026. Whether you are already leading or you are ready for that important next step, this is a role where your decisions will matter and your wellbeing will not be an afterthought.

Success here looks like confident day to day leadership, uplifting the team around you, nurturing a positive culture, and maintaining excellent patient care without sacrificing your own balance.

Why This Role Is Different

A Leadership Role Built on Support, Not Pressure

You will not be carrying the non clinical load alone. A dedicated admin team covering HR, health and safety and finance takes the operational weight off your shoulders, so you can focus on clinical standards and people.

A Team That Learns Together

You will work alongside experienced colleagues, including vets with postgraduate certificates, who value mentorship and shared learning. This is a collaborative environment, not a competitive one.

A Workload That Allows You to Thrive

A varied caseload keeps your skills sharp, with everything from routine care to more complex medicine and surgery. You will also have protected admin time each week and a 4 day week option that genuinely supports work life balance.

Facilities That Help You Practice the Way You Want

With equipment such as dental x ray, laparoscope and gastroscope, as well as a wider hospital network for support, you will have the tools you need to deliver care you are proud of.

Stability and Future Focus

The practice is part of a respected veterinary group, offering continuity, collaboration and shared expertise. The upcoming transition to a purpose built hospital with a dedicated night team adds even more long term security and opportunity.

Your Journey Here

In Your First Month:
You will get to know the team across branches, understand workflows, settle into your leadership responsibilities and develop a clear picture of how the practice functions day to day.

In Your First 3 Months:
You will be confidently leading by example, supporting colleagues clinically and emotionally, contributing to rota and wellbeing discussions, and beginning to influence clinical governance and standards.

In Your First 6 Months:
You will be a driving force in the practice, helping shape culture, mentoring developing vets, supporting certificate aspirations and partnering with the Clinical Director on strategic growth.
