Veterinary Surgeon – 9–12 Month Fixed-Term Contract (Independent Practice, Essex)
Are you an experienced Veterinary Surgeon looking for a supportive independent practice offering genuine work–life balance? We have a fantastic maternity cover opportunity within a friendly small animal clinic in Essex.
The Opportunity
This is a 9–12 month fixed-term contract, initially offered as 9 months with the option to extend depending on the permanent vet’s return date. You’ll be joining a well-established team with strong clinical support, though you should be comfortable with periods of sole charge during late finishes and Saturday mornings.
Hours & Flexibility
The role averages around 28 hours per week, with 1 in 3 Saturday mornings.
A 3-day working week can also be considered. This would include:
Friday: 08:30–19:00 (required)
A second long day on Wednesday or Thursday
A shorter day on Monday or Tuesday (approx. 08:30–16:00/16:30)
Plus 1 in 3 Saturday mornings
Salary & Requirements
Salary: Starting from £35,000
Confident small animal vet able to manage sole charge when required
