About Us
Join us to help keep even more people and pets together when times are tough. For over a century, PDSA have provided vital veterinary care for the pets of people in financial hardship.
We’re now on a journey to expand our reach to support even more people and their beloved pets. To achieve this ambitious goal, we need passionate and driven individuals who are ready to embrace change and help shape a future-focused PDSA. Together, we'll build a stronger organisation to ensure our services help those who need us most for the next hundred years.
If you're ready to make a real difference and be part of a team that's creating positive change, we want you to join us. Let's build a brighter future for pets and their owners, together.
About you
We're looking for a confident and adaptable veterinary surgeon who enjoys the variety and challenge of a busy caseload. You'll be comfortable making sound clinical decisions and discussing a range of treatment options with clients, tailoring recommendations to suit both the pet's needs and the owner's circumstances.
Communication and teamwork are central to this role. You'll enjoy building strong relationships with clients and colleagues alike, working collaboratively within a supportive environment where case discussion, knowledge-sharing and continuous learning are encouraged.
Joining our experienced and compassionate team, you'll have the opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of pets and their owners while contributing to the ongoing development of our services. We value a positive work-life balance and are happy to consider both full-time and part-time applications.
About the hospital
Basildon is a friendly and collaborative Pet Hospital where teamwork, support and clinical development are at the heart of everything we do.
You'll be joining an experienced veterinary team led by a Senior Veterinary Surgeon and Veterinary Surgeon Team Leader, alongside four Veterinary Surgeons at varying stages of their careers. The team has interests across soft tissue surgery, emergency and urgent care, and orthopaedics, creating an excellent environment for learning, mentoring and clinical discussion.
We're keen to hear from vets who are confident with consultations and routine surgery. For those looking to further develop their surgical skills, support and training opportunities are available.
You'll be supported by an experienced multi-disciplinary team consisting of a Head Nurse, two Veterinary Nurse Team Leaders, seven Registered Veterinary Nurses, five Veterinary Care Assistants, a Client Services Manager and seven Reception Team Members.
The full-time rota offers a variety of shift patterns, including 8:00am to 4:30pm, 8:30am to 5:00pm, 9:00am to 5:30pm, 9:30am to 6:00pm and 10:30am to 7:00pm, helping to provide flexibility and work-life balance across the team.
We aim to operate a 1 in 6 weekend rota, although some flexibility is required as this may occasionally increase during periods of reduced staffing. Weekend shifts are 9:00am to 6:00pm and include 18 hours of stand-down time, typically with time off before and after the weekend worked. Vets also usually support one Bank Holiday per year.
The team works exceptionally well together, creating a positive and enjoyable working environment where colleagues are encouraged to share knowledge, develop their skills and make a real difference to the lives of pets and their owners every day.

As well as a rewarding role and a positive, people-focused culture, we also offer a wide range of benefits, including:
