Purpose-led ECC work | 7 on, 14 off | True clinical support
If you love emergency work, but want it to feel sustainable again
If you are drawn to emergency and critical care because it matters, not because you want endless chaos and burnout, this role is worth your attention. This is for a vet who wants challenging night work, proper recovery time, and a team that genuinely has each other’s backs.
The Opportunity
We are working with a 24 hour veterinary hospital in Bolton that has built its night service around one core belief. High quality emergency care should be delivered without sacrificing the wellbeing of the people providing it.
This is a dedicated night role within a well established inpatient and ECC service. You are not a lone night vet firefighting unsupported. You are part of a wider clinical team with robust handovers, experienced nurses, and a hospital designed to support complex cases properly.
The organisation behind this hospital is a Community Interest Company with a clear social mission. Their focus is not profit maximisation, but making veterinary care accessible while still investing heavily in people, facilities, and clinical standards. That balance shapes how this role feels day to day.
Why This Role Is Different
A hospital built for ECC
This is a large, purpose-built site with 8 consulting rooms, 3 theatres, digital radiography, dental suite, CT scanner, and a dedicated ICU. Separate dog and cat wards are standard, not an afterthought.
Proper case continuity
You will manage genuine inpatient and emergency cases rather than short term stabilisation only. The caseload includes medical and surgical emergencies, with weekly orthopaedic procedures supported by the wider surgical team.
No hierarchy, real collaboration
The culture is deliberately flat. Decisions are discussed, ideas are welcomed, and clinical judgement is respected regardless of job title. Nurses are highly skilled and actively involved in patient care throughout the night.
Values you can stand behind
Free consultations and transparent pricing are central to how this organisation operates. Many vets find this deeply refreshing.
Your Journey Here
In your first month, you will focus on settling into the night rota, understanding handover systems, and getting comfortable with the hospital’s ECC protocols and equipment. Support is always available, even overnight.
By three months, you will be confidently managing complex emergency and inpatient cases, working closely with the nursing team, and shaping how nights run based on your clinical strengths and interests.
By six months, you will be a trusted part of the night service, potentially pursuing funded CPD or certificate level training in ECC, and contributing to the ongoing development of the hospital’s emergency care offering.
