A varied caseload, a genuinely supportive team, and a 4 day week that lets you breathe

If You Are Craving Balance Without Compromising on Clinical Stretch

If you are an experienced vet who loves the variety of hospital, consulting, and theatre work but is tired of feeling stretched thin or stuck without progression, this might feel like the role you have been hoping existed. A place where you can practice excellent medicine alongside people who have your back.

The Opportunity

We are working with a well equipped, purpose built small animal practice in St Albans, that has built a reputation for friendly, thoughtful care and a team culture that makes people want to stay. With sister sites nearby, you will enjoy a blend of hospital work, consulting blocks, and dedicated operating time that keeps your clinical world interesting without tipping into chaos.

They are looking for an experienced vet who cares deeply about doing right by patients, enjoys collaborating with a skilled nursing team, and values continuity. Someone who wants to keep growing, whether that means pursuing a certificate, developing a clinical interest, or simply working in an environment where you can do your best work.

Success here looks like feeling part of a team that supports each other, having the space to think rather than firefight, and the freedom to shape your career in a way that feels fulfilling.

Why This Role Is Different

A purpose built clinical environment

Digital and dental x ray, ultrasound, an in house laboratory, and dedicated dental and surgical facilities mean you can work efficiently and deliver high quality medicine without compromise.

Genuine clinical variety

A mix of hospital, consulting, and operating shifts gives you regular exposure to a broad caseload. You will not be stuck in theatre every day nor limited to consulting only.

A team that cares about each other as much as the patients

You will join an experienced group of vets, nurses, and support staff, many with additional qualifications and specialist interests. They work collaboratively, they share cases, and you will always find someone willing to talk through a decision.

Investment in your growth

Certificates are supported and funded. Whether your interest is medicine, surgery, imaging, or something else, your development is seen as part of the practice’s future, not a burden.

Stability within a respected wider group

With over thirty sites across the region including 24 hour hospitals and a referral centre, there are opportunities to develop, rotate, or explore interests without uprooting your life.

Your Journey Here

In Your First Month
You will settle into the rhythm of the hospital and branch sites, meet the nursing team, and get comfortable with the equipment and clinical systems. The focus is on relationships, not speed.

By Month Three
You will be consulting confidently, managing a varied caseload, and taking regular operating lists. You will have the option to explore an area you want to develop further, supported by senior clinicians

.

By Month Six
You will feel like a core member of the team, contributing ideas, shaping patient care, and potentially beginning formal certificate study if that is the direction you want to take.
