Canterbury, Kent, United Kingdom

My client in Bekesbourne is currently seeking a Clinical Director to join their team.

The salary for this role ranges from £72,000 to £75,000, depending on experience.

In addition, the successful candidate will receive up to £5,000 as a relocation allowance bonus.

As the Clinical Director, the responsibilities include supporting a team of 4 vets, overseeing high clinical standards, managing the vets' rota, making clinical decisions, and working closely with the practice manager to achieve goals and objectives.

The role also involves clinical work, such as surgery and consultations, as well as welcoming graduates if required.

The clinic is located in a beautiful rural area with picturesque countryside views.

Despite its rural setting, it is conveniently only 10 minutes away from Canterbury city centre and has good travel links to Dover and London, as well as local train connections.

The practice boasts 4 consultation rooms, an internal prep/laboratory area, endoscopy, ultrasound, digital and dental radiography, a dental suite, a theatre, and kennels. Additionally, there is a separate cat theatre suite, prep area, and kennels.

The practice is also proud to have a hydrotherapy unit with a water treadmill, a separate consultation room, and a large training room. These facilities contribute to the unique selling points of the practice, along with its peaceful location.

Other duties of the Clinical Director will include management responsibilities, ensuring staff receive adequate leadership, guidance, development, and appraisal, as well as upholding health and safety policies. Financial performance of the practice, clinical staff rotas, and participation in corporate meetings are also important aspects of the role.

Effective communication with the Business Support Manager and compliance with clinical management duties, such as maintaining RCVS Practice Standards Scheme registration and promoting clinical best practices, are also part of the position.

The HR duties include applying and following all company policies and procedures related to HR, promoting well-being within the practice, recruiting, managing, and disciplining staff in accordance with internal policies, and reviewing staff pay on an annual basis.

The Clinical Director is responsible for ensuring appropriate actions are taken regarding right-to-work checks, employment contracts, job descriptions, and appraisals. Encouraging CPD for vets and nurses, promoting and supporting diversity and inclusion within the practice are also important HR duties.

The position requires a flexible 40-hour workweek, which can be spread over 4-5 days. There are specific opening hours and a weekend rota, with a 1 in 4 rotation for Saturday shifts. However, there is no out-of-hours work required for this role.

My client's practice team consists of 4 vets, 11 nurses, 1 animal nursing assistant, 5 receptionists, and a practice manager. Although there are currently no certificate holders on staff, the practice collaborates with visiting specialists in cardiology, orthopaedics, and ultrasonography. The practice is actively involved with local charities, such as Dogs Trust, Guide Dogs, RSPCA, and Cats Protection, supporting animals in foster care and organizing microchipping and neutering days.

My client places great importance on its employees and invests in their development, well-being, and work-life balance. In addition to a competitive base salary, the Clinical Director will enjoy benefits such as 7.6 weeks of annual leave, a paid day off for their birthday, private medical insurance, enhanced family-friendly policies, a cycle to Work scheme, and initiatives focused on employee well-being. The practice supports continuous professional development with a £1,250 CPD allowance and 5 days paid pro rata.

Certificate support, learning opportunities and access to Vetlexicon, and research funding options are also available. Furthermore, the practice offers pawsome benefits through reward gateway, pension plans, discounted staff pet care, and coverage for professional memberships and fees.
