Are you an experienced Veterinary Surgeon ready to take the next step into clinical leadership without losing the hands-on clinical work you love? 🐾
GVC are assisting a well-established veterinary group in Kent with the recruitment of a Lead Veterinary Surgeon. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape the future of a growing clinical team, support colleagues and enjoy a varied caseload across hospital work, consulting and surgery.
With a predominantly hospital-based role, access to excellent facilities and genuine opportunities to develop your own clinical interests, this could be the ideal next step for an experienced vet looking for leadership with purpose.
The Role
You'll be predominantly based at an RCVS-accredited veterinary hospital, with regular time at a nearby branch practice. You'll play an important role in strengthening the veterinary team, developing clinical standards and building a supportive, collaborative working environment.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing high-quality first-opinion consultations, medical work-ups and surgical care.
- Supporting and developing colleagues through mentoring, clinical guidance and knowledge sharing.
- Helping build a strong, sustainable veterinary team across the practices.
- Taking ownership of a clinical interest, whether that's surgery, medicine, training or clinical development.
- Working alongside experienced veterinary surgeons and RVNs, with support from the wider group.
- Maintaining continuity of care while enjoying a varied and rewarding caseload.
- For surgically minded vets, there's plenty to get excited about, including access to laparoscopic surgery equipment, endoscopy and bronchoscopy across the group.
The Practices
Your main base will be an RCVS-accredited veterinary hospital with a larger veterinary and nursing team, advanced diagnostic facilities and surgical capabilities. A 24-hour emergency service is provided externally, meaning there's no in-house OOH rota.
You'll also spend regular time at a close-knit branch practice with strong community relationships and an exciting opportunity to further develop its veterinary team. You'll work alongside the existing vet, with additional clinical support and expertise available from the hospital.
Both practices are RCVS accredited, with the hospital holding Gold Cat Friendly Clinic status and Dogs Trust Dog Friendly Practice accreditation. The branch practice holds Silver Cat Friendly Clinic status.
What We're Looking For
- A Veterinary Surgeon with a minimum of five years' UK small animal practice experience.
- Ideally a surgery certificate holder, or an experienced surgeon with a strong surgical interest and substantial caseload.
- A confident first-opinion clinician who enjoys a mix of consulting, medicine and surgery.
- Someone comfortable working independently and undertaking occasional sole-charge work.
- A natural mentor who enjoys supporting, developing and inspiring colleagues.
- A proactive, approachable leader who wants to help build a strong and sustainable clinical team.
- Someone who wants to remain hands-on clinically while making a meaningful contribution to the practice.
What's on Offer?
- Salary of £75,000–£80,000, depending on experience.
- 40-hour working week, with a choice of 4 × 10-hour or 5 × 8-hour days.
- Fridays off.
- 1:5 Saturday rota.
- No out-of-hours.
- £1,500 annual CPD allowance plus five days.
- Certificates funded across most disciplines, subject to agreement.
- Relocation allowance.
- Five weeks' holiday plus bank holidays and birthday leave.
- RCVS and VDS fees paid.
- Access to an extensive online CPD programme and funded external CPD.
- Career progression and clinical development opportunities.
- Employer pension contributions and life assurance.
