Vet Needed For 12 Month FTC In Lancashire
Lancashire, United Kingdom
My client is looking for a Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon to join their team on a 12-month fixed-term contract. This is a full-time role, though flexible working options can be discussed. The practice has been established for over a century and provides high-quality, first-opinion veterinary care across multiple branches in Lancashire.
The team is large, friendly, and highly experienced, with certificate holders in medicine, dentistry, and ECC. Many of the nursing team also hold advanced qualifications, including ECC, anaesthesia, feline nursing and medicine, dentistry, and physiotherapy. With qualified GDP mentors, mental health first aiders, and wellbeing champions on site, this is a supportive environment where colleagues look out for one another. Regular social activities and charity events are also an important part of the culture.
The main hospital site is well-equipped with digital x-ray, ultrasound, flexible and rigid endoscopy, two surgical theatres with multiparameter monitoring, a dental suite with dental x-ray, a bereavement room, and separate canine and feline wards. There is also an extensive in-house laboratory and four consulting rooms. The varied caseload provides an excellent opportunity to develop your skills further, and the practice regularly collaborates with visiting specialists in ultrasonography and cardiology to allow the majority of cases to be worked up in-house.
The practice provides its own 24-hour care, supported by three dedicated night RVNs (two with ECC certificates) who handle the phones overnight for the on-call vets, making out-of-hours work far more manageable while ensuring excellent inpatient care. Full-time vets covering OOH typically work a rotation of 3, 4, and 5-day weeks across an 8-week rolling rota, with only two 5-day weeks in every cycle. Out-of-hours shifts are supported by night nurses, and generous time off in lieu is given, with the following day off after being on call. The weekend OOH rota is 1.5 in 8 with additional rest days built in.
Benefits include
**Salary is between £40,000 and £60,000 depending on experience.
**CPD is actively encouraged with a £1,700 budget plus 5 days paid CPD leave annually (pro rata).
**Certificates are encouraged and can be fully funded.
**RCVS membership, VDS cover, and two additional professional memberships are also included.
**6.6 weeks holiday including bank holidays, with holiday buy-back scheme
**Private medical insurance (via group payroll deduction)
**Enhanced parental leave pay
**Employee Assistance Programme
**One paid volunteering day per year (pro rata)
**Corporate gym membership (£22.50/month) and Cycle to Work scheme
**The opportunity to bring well-behaved pets to work
**A collaborative, supportive workplace that values wellbeing and professional growth
This is a fantastic opportunity for a Veterinary Surgeon who wants to join a well-established team with excellent facilities, varied caseload, and strong support both in and out of hours.
