Lead / Veterinary Surgeon – Permanent Role - Opportunity for branch partnership

About the Practice

This independent small animal practice has been established for over 20 years and continues to run with the same ethos: providing excellent veterinary care without unnecessary upselling. The team is close-knit, drama-free, and genuinely supportive, with long-standing ties to the local community, including collaborations with a nearby cat charity.

The practice may be modest in size, but it is well-equipped with a long-standing team. This is an excellent opportunity for a veterinary surgeon seeking stability, autonomy, and the chance to grow into a leadership or even partnership role in the future.

The Role

Position: Lead / Veterinary Surgeon (Small Animal

Employment Type: Full-time, permanent

Sole charge: Yes – confidence in sole charge is essential

Caseload: Varied mix of consultations and surgeries

 

Hours & Rota

Weekdays: 9:00am start, last consult at 5:50pm (always breaks for a cuppa during the day).

Surgery typically 9:30–10:30am, then afternoon consult blocks, with surgery time factored in for the afternoon too.

Saturdays: 1 in 3 rota, 9:00am–12:00pm

Sundays: Closed.

OOH: None – covered externally.

Day off: 1 fixed day off per week.

General surgical kit

Ortho kit 

X-ray (CR plate system)

IDEXX in-house lab

Ultrasound 

 

Salary & Benefits

Salary: £Up to £70,000 DOE

CPD: Open to certificate support

Holiday: Generous leave allowance plus bank holidays

No OOH, supportive independent team

The practice is seeking a confident small animal vet who is comfortable with sole charge and routine surgeries. The ideal candidate will be:

Independent, proactive, and reliable

A good communicator and team player, fitting into a supportive, drama-free culture

Passionate about providing the best care for pets without unnecessary costs to clients
