GVC are excited to be assisting a leading veterinary group with the recruitment of a Lead Veterinary Surgeon to join their established small animal team in Leicestershire, ahead of the opening of a brand-new, purpose-built hospital in April 2026.
This is an incredibly rare opportunity for an experienced clinician and certificate holder to take the reins and help shape something from the ground up. The new facility will feature state-of-the-art diagnostic and surgical equipment, including a CT scanner and will provide the ideal platform for a forward-thinking leader to guide a talented, motivated team into the next phase of their journey.

About the Role
The Lead Veterinary Surgeon will work closely with the Clinical Director to uphold clinical excellence, support the growth and wellbeing of the team, and ensure the highest standards of patient care.
This is a role that combines leadership, collaboration, and hands-on clinical work in a modern, progressive environment.

The successful candidate will:
Lead and mentor colleagues, including graduate vets, fostering a positive and supportive culture.
Oversee the day-to-day clinical caseload and operational workflow.
Support the smooth transition from the current practice into the new hospital.
Contribute to the strategic growth of the practice as part of the senior leadership team.
Drive continuous improvement in clinical standards, governance, and client care.
Leadership experience is essential, along with a postgraduate certificate (a PSS Hospital status requirement). Further professional development is actively encouraged, with support for additional qualifications and CPD opportunities.

This role offers a four-day working week with protected administration time and no on-call duties. The weekend and bank holiday rota is shared equally among the team. Flexibility and wellbeing are valued, with diaries designed to accommodate important commitments and life outside of work.
