GVC is supporting a well-established, RCVS-accredited small animal practice in Bury, Greater Manchester, to recruit a Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon on a 12-month fixed-term contract. This is an excellent opportunity for a vet seeking a supportive team, varied caseload and an excellent work-life balance with no out-of-hours or sole charge.
Offering a salary of up to £64,000 FTE (pro rata, depending on experience), this part-time role is ideal for someone looking to balance their career alongside other commitments, with flexible working options available.
The Practice
You'll be joining a thriving two-site small animal practice with a busy 24-hour A&E hospital, providing a varied mix of first opinion and emergency cases. The experienced team includes:
- 14 Veterinary Surgeons, including multiple certificate holders
- 20 Registered Veterinary Nurses, Student Nurses and Animal Care Assistants
- 13 dedicated support team members
The hospital is fully equipped with:
- Digital X-ray
- Ultrasound
- In-house laboratory
- Modern facilities enabling gold-standard patient care
The Role
This is a varied position combining consultations and inpatient care, with the opportunity to undertake surgery if desired.
Your responsibilities will include:
- First opinion consultations
- Inpatient and ward care
- Medical case work-ups
- Optional routine surgical days
- Working closely with a highly experienced multidisciplinary team
- Exposure to an interesting emergency caseload through the hospital service
This role is equally suited to vets who enjoy consulting and medicine, as surgical duties are entirely optional.
Working Pattern
- 12-month fixed-term contract
- Part-time – 20 hours per week
- Working Wednesdays plus either Thursday or Friday
- Shift options:
- 8:00am – 6:30pm
- 10:00am – 8:30pm
- Flexible working considered, including potential school hours
- 1 in 6 weekends (paid in addition to salary)
- No out-of-hours
- No sole charge
About You
We're looking for an RCVS-registered Veterinary Surgeon who:
- Has gained good confidence with routine consultations and preventative healthcare
- Is comfortable managing first opinion medical cases
- Is confident with routine surgery if wishing to participate in the surgical rota
- Has excellent communication and client care skills
- Works well within a collaborative team
- Is committed to delivering outstanding patient care
