St Helens, Merseyside, United Kingdom

Tier 3 hospital. Certificate focused. Flexible working. £38,000 to £60,000 DOE.

If you are an experienced vet who wants clinical challenge without losing your life outside work, this might be exactly what you have been hoping to find.

Maybe you are craving more support. Maybe you want real progression. Maybe you simply want a place where you are trusted to work cases up properly. Whatever your reason, you deserve a role that gives you the space to breathe and the freedom to grow.

The Opportunity

We are working with a respected tier 3 hospital based around St Helens that has created a genuinely supportive, learning driven environment. This is a practice where ongoing development is not a buzzword. It is built into the culture. Several vets already hold certificates in medicine, surgery and diagnostic imaging, and others are actively studying. They want someone who will thrive with that level of clinical depth and who enjoys continual improvement.

You will split your time between a well equipped hospital and a friendly branch site. Half of your week can be sole charge if you enjoy autonomy, or you can opt for branch only with hospital backup whenever you need it. Either way, you will be surrounded by people who want you to succeed and who are proud of the standard of care they deliver.

The location offers a brilliant balance. You are close to Liverpool and Manchester, with easy commuter links, airports within reach and weekend escapes to North Wales or the Lake District right on your doorstep. Clinical challenge paired with genuine work life balance is absolutely achievable here.

Why This Role Is Different

Advanced facilities that support real clinical progression

You will have access to equipment that allows you to work cases up properly, including:
• Digital X ray and dental radiography
• Ultrasound and various scopes
• CO2 laser and laparoscopic kit
• A 64 slice CT scanner and 1.5T MRI

A team that invests in your development

• Multiple certificate holders across key disciplines
• A strong relationship with an on site referral service
• A culture where pursuing special interests is actively encouraged, not squeezed in around the edges

Flexible working that respects your life outside practice

• A genuine 4 day week
• Weekend rota options: 1 in 8 full weekends or 2 Saturdays and 1 Sunday in 8 weeks
• Some holiday and sickness cover for out of hours, with robust hospital support

A place where you are trusted to be a clinician

• Autonomy at the branch balanced with hospital backup
• The freedom to manage cases to a high standard
• A nursing and support team who make your day easier, not harder

Your Journey Here

In your first month: You will get to know both branch and hospital teams, settle into the rota and familiarise yourself with their advanced imaging and surgical equipment. You will have plenty of time to ease into sole charge if that is part of your week.

By three months: You will be confidently running branch days, working up cases with input from certificate holders and exploring the clinical areas that interest you most. You will feel embedded in a team that genuinely values your contribution.

By six months: You will be a key clinician within the group, potentially mapping out a certificate route and influencing how the branch and hospital collaborate. You will feel that your professional energy is being invested rather than depleted.

What Is On Offer

Compensation and time off
£38,000 to £60,000 DOE
4 day week
6.6 weeks annual leave including bank holidays

Professional growth
£1,750 CPD allowance plus 1 week CPD leave
• Certificate support encouraged and funded
• VDS, RCVS, BSAVA and BVA fees paid

Wellbeing and security
• Staff pet discount scheme
• Optional private medical insurance and Healthshield
• Maternity, paternity and adoption pay schemes
