A senior position has opened for an experienced Veterinary Surgeon to join an independent, vet-owned small animal hospital in South Wales. This role combines a varied general practice caseload (consulting, operating, and inpatient care) with a defined first on-call commitment and opportunities to mentor developing vets.
Role & Schedule Details:
- Position: Senior Veterinary Surgeon
- Salary: £40,000 – £60,000 depending on experience and clinical confidence
- Working Pattern: 5-day week centered on GP caseload, surgery, and inpatient care.
- On-Call Rota: 7 nights on call per rota followed by 7 days’ recovery, plus 3 weekend mornings across an 11-week rota.
- Support: RVN and SVN on site 24/7 during on-call periods, with senior back-up available for complex cases.
- Location Note: Must live within 15 minutes of the hospital when on call or be able to stay in the on-site practice flat.
Practice Facilities:
- Purpose-built hospital featuring separate cat, dog, and exotic waiting and hospitalisation areas.
- Equipped with DR X-ray, Doppler ultrasound, dental suite with dental radiography, comprehensive in-house laboratory (including SediVue), and endoscopy/scopes.
Candidate Requirements:
- Experienced vet with confident clinical decision-making skills and clear communication.
- Approachable mentor keen to support colleagues' clinical reasoning and practical training.
