Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon – Independent Practice, Norfolk
Location: Norfolk
Recruiter: GVC are assisting an independent, RCVS-accredited Hospital and General Practice
About the Practice
GVC are assisting a proudly independent veterinary practice based in Norfolk, established in 2013. Since then, the practice has gained RCVS Hospital Standard accreditation, opened a second branch in (just 25 minutes away), and grown into a thriving team of nearly 70 dedicated professionals.
This is a practice that is always evolving: committed to innovation, client and patient care 24/7, and building a team culture where colleagues are supported, challenged, and motivated to thrive.
The Role
The team is now looking to welcome a Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon to join their growing tribe.
This is a role where you will be empowered to deliver clinical excellence in both medicine and surgery, whilst also providing the exceptional, five-star client service that the practice is renowned for. You’ll be supported by a strong nursing team, senior veterinary surgeons, and management structure, and you’ll also play a key role in developing and mentoring colleagues where required.
This position is well-suited to vets with at least 1 year of experience, ideally 5–6 years qualified, who are confident with first opinion work and keen to keep developing their clinical and consultative skills. While the practice isn’t currently recruiting new graduates, this may be reviewed next year. Please note they are not in a position to offer visa sponsorship at this time.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Conducting consultations, investigations, and surgical procedures across two sites.
- Maintaining excellent clinical standards, accurate record keeping, and timely communication.
- Collaborating closely with colleagues across the veterinary, nursing, and admin teams.
- Handling inpatients and emergency cases, including handovers between day and night teams.
- Supporting the Head Vet and Senior Management Team in driving practice values and innovation.
- Mentoring colleagues or supporting EMS student placements where appropriate.
- What They’re Looking For
- A first-class vet who balances a diagnostic-first approach with practical, client-focused decision-making.
- An excellent communicator who enjoys engaging with clients and their pets.
- Calm, confident, empathetic, and professional under pressure.
- Flexible, positive, resilient, and a great team player.
- Committed to continuous learning and CPD in line with RCVS requirements.
Working Pattern

Core shifts:
- Early: 7am–4pm

- Weekends: 1 in 5 rotation (Saturday consults + emergency cover until Monday AM).
- Nights: 1 in 9 rotation, 7 nights of 7pm–7am inpatient and emergency care, with additional night allowance + 7 days recovery.
- Supported at all times by the Head Vet and Senior Veterinary Surgeon rota.
