Independent Small Animal Practice

Are you an experienced Veterinary Surgeon looking to join a truly independent, client-focused small animal practice in North West London? GVC is assisting a progressive, well-established practice that prides itself on outstanding patient care, longer consultations, and strong client relationships.
The Opportunity
This is a permanent Veterinary Surgeon role within a supportive, close-knit team committed to delivering high clinical standards with a compassionate, individualised approach for every pet and owner. The practice places real value on communication, holistic care, and professional autonomy.
The Practice & Facilities
You’ll be working in a modern, well-equipped independent practice with excellent clinical resources, including:
- Digital CR and dental radiography with a dedicated dental suite
- Full in-house IDEXX laboratory
- Ultrasound, endoscopy and bronchoscopy
- Multi-parameter monitoring and tonometry
- Fully equipped theatre suite
- Four consulting rooms (separate cat/small furries and dog areas)
- Separate cat and dog entrances, receptions, consulting rooms and wards
- Quiet room for end-of-life discussions
- RxWorks practice management system
The practice is an ISFM Gold Standard Cat Friendly Clinic and a Dogs Trust Dog Friendly Clinic, with a no-scruff, minimal restraint handling policy.
Working Pattern
- Open Monday–Friday 8am–7pm, Saturdays 9am–6pm
- Closed Sundays
- 20–30 minute consultations
- Protected client communication time
- Scheduled surgery and procedure blocks
- Morning and afternoon ward rounds
- 1 hour lunch break
- No out-of-hours
- 1:3 Saturdays with a day off in lieu
- 4-day working week considered
Clinical Support
- Visiting specialists in cardiology and diagnostic imaging
- Advanced soft tissue and orthopaedic surgical support
- Referrals typically to recognised specialist centres
The Ideal Candidate
- Minimum 3 years’ UK small animal practice experience
- Confident in routine surgery and general medicine
- Comfortable with occasional sole charge and emergency cases
- Passionate about empathetic, holistic, evidence-based care
- A supportive team player with strong communication skills
Salary & Benefits
- Competitive salary (DOE)
- CPD allowance: £1,500 per year
- RCVS and VDS fees paid
