Oxfordshire, United Kingdom

An experienced Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon is sought to join a large, well-established independent practice with hospital and branch sites across Oxfordshire and Gloucestershire. This is a permanent role, ideally working 4 days per week (8:00am–6:30pm), with alternative patterns considered. The position is mainly hospital-based, with some sole-charge branch work, and a balanced rota covering consults, surgery, hospital and ambulatory duties, fully supported by extensive nursing, reception and coordination teams.

Consults are 15 minutes, with extra time for complex cases and admin. Rotas are designed to be realistic and sustainable, with cases handed over each evening to a dedicated in-house night team. OOH is limited to 1:10 full weekends (day shifts only) plus occasional Saturday mornings, with TOIL provided, including a Monday morning off after full weekends and a full day off following occasional night shifts.

The practice combines established clinical protocols with genuine clinical freedom, supporting vets to develop their own plans within a progressive, open-minded team. With a large and loyal client base, the caseload is varied and rewarding, supporting continued development of medical and surgical skills. The team includes 19 small animal vets, a highly skilled nursing team, and a fully staffed in-house lab, pharmacy and dispensary.

Strong emphasis is placed on career development, with mentoring, a structured career pathway, funded CPD (1 week and £1,500 per year), and additional support for Certificates. The role also provides access to XL Vet resources.

The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years’ experience, be a collaborative team player, and hold a full UK driving licence with own transport due to the rural location.

Benefits include:
