Clinical leadership without on call. Real influence. A team that wants to grow with you.

If you love clinical excellence but want more say in how things are done…

…without sacrificing your evenings, your weekends, or your sanity, this could be the role you have been quietly hoping exists.

This is for a vet who still cares deeply about standards, mentoring others, and doing things properly, but who wants protected time, genuine support, and the space to lead with clarity rather than firefighting.

The Opportunity

We are working with a well established, first opinion practice in Uppingham that has built something rare. A genuinely collaborative environment where leadership is valued, time is protected, and clinical decisions are respected.

They are looking for a Lead Veterinary Surgeon to work closely with the Clinical Director. Not as a figurehead, but as a true partner in shaping clinical direction, supporting the team, and maintaining high standards across the practice.

You might already be leading. Or you might be an experienced vet ready to take that step, with the right support behind you. Either way, this role is designed to help you thrive, not stretch you thin.

Why This Role Is Different

Leadership with structure, not overwhelm

You will have protected admin time, support from an established Clinical Director, and a dedicated non clinical team covering HR, finance, and compliance. Leadership here is shared and supported.

A varied, interesting caseload

This is true first opinion work with scope. From routine consults through to more complex medical and surgical cases, supported by dental x ray, laparoscope, and gastroscope.

A team that values learning

You will work alongside vets with postgraduate certificates who enjoy mentoring and shared decision making. This is a culture where asking questions is encouraged, not judged.

Work life balance that is actually real

A 40 hour week over 4 or 5 days, a 1:5 weekend rota, and no on call for this role. Flexibility is built in for life events and appointments.

Stability and future planning

The practice is part of a wider, respected group and is transitioning to a new hospital model with a dedicated night team planned for April 2026. This is long term thinking, not short term patching.

Your Journey Here

In your first month, you will focus on getting to know the team, understanding how the practice runs, and settling into the leadership rhythm with the Clinical Director.

By three months, you will be confidently leading clinically, supporting colleagues with case discussions, and contributing to governance and rota planning.

By six months, you will be shaping clinical standards, mentoring others with confidence, and potentially exploring further leadership training or funded CPD aligned with your interests.

What’s On Offer

Time, balance, and security

The wider benefits

The Candor Vets Difference

At Candor Vets, we do not push roles. We listen first, then match people to practices where they are likely to stay and feel fulfilled.

Ready to Explore?

If this sounds like the kind of leadership role where you could do your best work and still have a life outside the clinic, let’s have a confidential, no pressure conversation.
