Whitchurch, Shropshire, United Kingdom
We are looking for an experienced farm animal vet who is ready to take the next step in their career within a supportive and collaborative team environment.
Our practice has a large and experienced farm veterinary team where collaboration and shared clinical discussion are central to how we work. While the role requires someone confident working independently on farm, we strongly believe that the best outcomes for our clients and their animals come from working together and sharing expertise.
Opportunities to Develop
Alongside core clinical work, we offer several areas where vets can develop their interests. These include:
- Advanced reproduction including artificial insemination (AI) and embryo transfer (ET) for both cattle and sheep; working with our UKET team and developing our sheep services.
- Teaching and training of farmers and vet students through Harper-Keele Vet School clinical rotations and elective placements, with discussion groups and practical farmer training courses locally and further afield.
- Large-scale calf rearing systems; working with a unique client that manages calf rearing operations across the UK.
These areas provide excellent opportunities for someone keen to broaden their skills, develop expertise, or shape part of their own role within the practice.
The Role
This position offers a varied caseload with a focus on dairy herd health and consultancy, with a smaller amount of beef and sheep work. Building strong client relationships is at the heart of the role, with regular herd health visits forming the backbone of your workload.
You’ll be expected to be confident with routine dairy reproduction work, including ultrasound scanning, and comfortable contributing to clinical discussions with farmers and colleagues. Our approach means most farms work with more than one of our vets, so good communication within the team is key.
You would be joining a 1 in 10 out-of-hours rota, supporting the emergency work of a busy dairy-focused practice. Confidence managing cases independently out-of-hours and a solid base of farm surgical skills are expected.
Based at our practice in Whitchurch in North Shropshire we cover parts of Cheshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire and North Wales.
What We’re Looking For
Our ideal vet will:
- Be RCVS registered with at least 2 years’ experience in farm practice
- Be confident with cattle reproduction work and routine farm surgery
- Enjoy building long-term relationships with farmers
- Be a strong communicator and team player
- Be enthusiastic about developing clinically and contributing ideas
Most importantly, we’re looking for someone who enjoys working as part of a team and brings energy and curiosity to the role.
About Us:
Founded in 1999, we were the first farm animal-only veterinary practice in the UK and have continued to lead the way in the professionalisation and specialisation of farm veterinary services.
We now operate as a multi-site practice with more than 30 vets working across the Midlands and North West of England. From our original base in Whitchurch, we serve clients across Cheshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire and North Wales, as well as providing veterinary services to Guernsey in the Channel Islands.
Our team includes experienced clinicians, Vet Techs, TB vets, embryo transfer specialists and a fantastic support team who keep everything running smoothly. We maintain a friendly and social culture built around our core values: positivity, innovation, integrity, empathy, efficiency and effectiveness.
As part of the VetPartners Farm network, we benefit from a strong national community of farm vets and access to shared expertise, training and innovation. We also make extensive use of technology and data platforms such as TotalVet and Digifarm to support herd health planning and improve efficiency.
What’s in it for You:
As proud members of the VetPartners family we offer a fantastic range of benefits including (pro rata):
- Competitive salary, depending on experience and working patterns
- 1 in 10 OOH rota, with options to buy or sell OOH for flexibility
- 25 days holiday plus bank holidays, with additional days in lieu of weekends on call
- Vehicle provided or allowance
- Minimal TB testing thanks to our dedicated TB team
- Flexible CPD allowance with encouragement for further study
- Access to a wide network of European Diploma, DBR and Certificate holders across the wider LLM group
- Private medical insurance (after completion of probation)
- Health Shield cash plan
- One volunteering day per year
