A values-led leadership role. A genuine four-day week. Clinical autonomy with real purpose.
If You Are Ready for More Than Just Another Lead Role
If you are an experienced veterinary surgeon who still loves clinical work but wants the chance to truly lead, mentor, and shape a team, this could be the role that finally aligns with your values.
If you believe great veterinary care should be accessible, sustainable, and delivered by people who feel supported rather than stretched, you will feel at home here.
The Opportunity
We are working with a well-established, purpose-driven veterinary practice in Telford, that exists for one clear reason: to provide affordable, high-quality care to pets who need it most. This is not about profit first decision-making. It is about doing the right thing for patients, clients, and the people delivering the care.
They are now looking for a Lead Veterinary Surgeon to guide and develop a team of vets, working closely with an experienced Practice Manager and Lead Nurse. This is a true leadership position where your voice matters, your clinical judgement is trusted, and your ability to coach others is valued just as highly as your own surgical or medical skill.
You will still be hands-on clinically, but with protected time and support to lead properly, not firefight.
Why This Role Is Different
Leadership With Support, Not Isolation
You are not expected to carry everything alone. Leadership is shared alongside a strong Practice Manager and Lead Nurse, with clear structures, regular meetings, and a focus on collaboration rather than hierarchy.
Values That Actually Shape Decisions
This practice is a Community Interest Company, reinvesting the majority of profits back into the team and patient care. Decisions are made through the lens of fairness, access, and sustainability, not short-term financial gain.
Clinical Standards You Can Be Proud Of
High-quality, ethical medicine is central here. You will lead on clinical governance, mentor vets at different stages of their careers, and help embed consistent standards across the team.
A Sustainable Rota
You will work a genuine four-day week, averaging 40 hours, with 2 in 9 weekends worked at a nearby hospital, never sole charge. The structure is designed to support longevity in your career, not burnout.
Your Journey Here
In Your First Month
You will focus on getting to know the team, understanding how the clinic operates, and building trust. You will be supported as you step into leadership, with time to learn systems and understand the wider business context.
By Three Months
You will be confidently leading clinical discussions, holding one-to-one meetings, and supporting vets through coaching and mentoring. You will start contributing to KPI reviews and performance discussions with support.
By Six Months
You will be fully embedded as a clinical leader, shaping standards, influencing culture, and helping the practice continue to grow in a way that stays true to its mission. If VetGDP is part of your development plan, you will be actively supported in achieving it.
