Lead with purpose. Shape clinical excellence. Build a team that grows because of you.

If you are ready to step into leadership without giving up the joy of real veterinary medicine

If you have reached a point in your career where you want more than firefighting, more than routine days, and more than feeling like your expertise is underused, this may be the role you have been waiting for.

The Opportunity

We are working with a forward thinking, independent practice in Barnsley that has created a warm, community rooted environment where clinical standards genuinely matter. This is a practice that believes leadership is not about hierarchy. It is about influence, support and empowering people to do their best work.

They are looking for a Head Vet who can bring clinical excellence, steady leadership and a genuine desire to lift others up. You will be part of the management team, helping to guide the strategy, strengthen clinical protocols and nurture a team that is committed to delivering gold standard, evidence based care.

You will work a true 4 day week, take part in a 1 in 4 weekend rota and enjoy no out of hours, apart from being available for advice if there are overnight inpatients. This is the kind of role where you can grow, lead and still live your life.

Why This Role Is Different

A team you will genuinely enjoy leading

This practice has 4 RVNs, 2 Vets and a new graduate joining in September. One vet is pursuing advanced imaging skills. Another has a strong interest in exotics. You will have the space to mentor, develop, and shape a clinical direction that makes the whole team stronger.

Clinical work that keeps you growing

With varied caseload, exotics interest on site, investment in imaging and continuous CPD across all levels, you will not feel clinically stagnant. The team embraces new initiatives and invests time into closing skill gaps together.

A culture that values community

This is a practice where clients pop in for a chat, the reception team knows every pet by name and the staff are recognised for contributing to local events and education. It is a friendly, neighbourhood style clinic where your work has real impact.

A place that invests in you as a leader

Internal leadership training, protected development time and a management team that wants your ideas rather than simply expecting you to deliver theirs.

Your Journey Here

In Your First Month:
You will get to know the team, understand the clinical workflow and begin to build trust. You will also familiarise yourself with current standards and identify opportunities for quick improvements that make everyone’s day smoother.

In Your First 3 Months:
You will be confidently leading the clinical team, supporting the new graduate, strengthening protocols and contributing to wider surgery planning. You will start shaping the clinical direction in the areas that excite you most.

In Your First 6 Months:
You will be firmly established as the go to clinical lead, driving improvement initiatives, mentoring colleagues and helping the practice move closer to its goal of becoming a recognised centre of clinical excellence.
