Lead with purpose. Shape clinical standards. Help a talented team reach its full potential.
If you are ready to lead without burning out
If you are a seasoned vet who loves clinical excellence but is tired of feeling stretched thin, this role may be exactly what you have been wanting. A place where you can focus on gold standard care and mentor a team that truly wants to grow, all while having a predictable working pattern and protected time for leadership.
The Opportunity
We are working with a purpose-built, independent practice in the Doncaster area, that has been quietly building something special. This is a surgery where investment in people and standards is not a slogan, but a daily practice. They are now looking for a Head Vet who can guide their already-strong team into its next phase of clinical development.
You will be part of the management team, shaping the clinical vision and elevating standards across the caseload. This is not a figurehead role. They want someone who enjoys coaching colleagues, thinking strategically, and creating a culture where evidence-based care is the norm, not the exception.
Your week is structured around a genuine four day pattern with one in four weekends, no routine out of hours, and only remote support if there are any overnight inpatients. You get the space to lead without sacrificing your life outside the practice.
Why This Role Is Different
A practice built for high standards
Purpose-built, light and modern spaces designed to reduce stress for patients and clinicians. The surgery is equipped with advanced diagnostics and technology that actually gets used, not left to gather dust.
A team that wants to grow
Several vets and nurses are already working toward certificates, supported and encouraged to specialise. You will join colleagues who are genuinely proud of the medicine they deliver and eager to be coached further.
Leadership with real influence
As Head Vet you will help drive continuous improvement, shape clinical protocols, and support your team to deliver the vision of becoming a recognised centre of clinical excellence.
Stability from an independent group
The practice sits within a large, family-owned veterinary group known for long term thinking and investment rather than short term targets. This is a place where plans have room to breathe and people are not seen as replaceable.
Your Journey Here
In Your First Month
You will spend time getting to know the team, understanding existing workflows, and observing what is already working well. You will begin shaping your leadership rhythm with support from the wider management team.
In Your First Three Months
You will be confidently leading the clinical day, supporting colleagues through complex cases, and embedding quality improvements that make life easier for the whole team.
In Your First Six Months
You will be established as the clinical lead, driving standards, mentoring developing vets, and helping the practice expand its services in line with your interests and the team's strengths.
