Senior Veterinary Surgeon

Carmel Vets, Penn Field

Up to £70,000 FTE depending on experience

Take the next step in your career with a Senior role at Carmel Vets

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Senior Veterinary Surgeon to become instrumental in our practice's future growth and development. You will work across both of our sites which are a 15-minute drive from each other. This is an excellent opportunity for a confident vet who is looking to take on further responsibility. The role will involve supporting our part-time CD in empowering our clinical team and being the “go-to” person for advice and guidance. If you are ready for the next step in your career this role could be perfect for you. There is also potential for career progression.

Hours that work around you and your lifestyle

Our typical shift pattern is 40 hours per week between 8:30 am – 6:30 pm, with a share of 1:4 Saturdays between 8:30 am – 2 pm. No bank holidays, no Sundays and no out-of-hours. We are more than happy to consider a shift pattern that works around you as we know that everyone has demands and priorities outside of their career and we want to make it brilliantly easy for you to strike the right balance.

We are dedicated to providing the best possible care

Carmel Veterinary Centre is an RCVS Tier 2 accredited, VNTP, two-site small animal practice based in Wolverhampton with ISFM Silver status. Both practices are within walking distance of a local park, which is ideal if you bring your dog to work or just to get some fresh air and stretch your legs at lunchtime. Wolverhampton is ideally based to access both city life and the countryside.

We are equipped with ultrasound, digital X-ray, endoscope, bronchoscope and full in-house Idexx lab machines. We will be purchasing a dental X-ray machine in the coming months and have lots of enthusiasm and development plans for the future.

We are committed to providing the best possible service and will always try to go the extra mile to deliver exceptional client and patient care.

A motivated and caring team

Our team of 7 Receptionists, 14 RVN’s, one SVN, 2 Veterinary Care Assistants, 1 Animal Care Assistant and a dedicated Clinical Cleaner, based across both sites, are friendly and motivated, and we strongly encourage CPD and self-development. One of our nurses has completed her ISFM Diploma in Feline Nursing and has Fear Free Practioner Status.

As a team we all work together to practice Fear Free protocols  In addition, three members of our team have trained as Mental Health First Aiders. It is important to us that we provide a positive and supportive working environment, to maintain our strong ethos of teamwork and communication. Using Vet led initiatives and building on the friendly and supportive foundation we already have, we have worked hard to develop a strong culture of “civility”. We are looking for a candidate with strong interpersonal skills and a core mindset of kindness and respect.

Applicant Requirements

Our ideal Senior Vet will have a minimum of 4 years of experience in clinical practice. They will enjoy leadership; have great people skills and have a genuine consideration for well-being. They will be confident in both consulting and surgery. They will be keen to promote learning and continuous improvement by mentoring less experienced colleagues and our New Graduate, who is joining us from South Africa in July this year.
