Independent ECC practice. Genuine clinical freedom. Night rota that gives you your life back.
If you love ECC but not the burnout
If you are tired of feeling stretched thin, carrying the emotional weight of emergency work, or wondering if there is somewhere you can do this job without losing yourself, this role may feel like a breath out. This is for the ECC vet who wants to make a real difference and still have space to recover, grow, and feel human again.
The Opportunity
We are working with an independent emergency and critical care service in the Storrington area, that has built something unusually thoughtful. This is not a place that treats nights as a test of endurance. It is a team that understands the intensity of ECC and has designed a rota, environment, and culture that helps you thrive rather than survive.
They are looking for an experienced ECC Veterinary Surgeon who wants to bring calm, skill, and empathy to out of hours care. Someone who values teamwork as much as clinical excellence. Someone who wants to work in a hospital that feels warm, carefully designed, and genuinely welcoming, rather than clinical in the cold sense of the word.
Here, success looks like delivering exceptional, personal care during the moments when pets and owners need it most. It looks like feeling supported, trusted, and part of something stable and kind. It looks like being able to grow your clinical interests without sacrificing the parts of your life that matter.
Why This Role Is Different
A calm, purpose designed environment
Two state of the art hospitals with interiors intentionally created to feel warm and home like, rather than sterile. It is hard to describe, but you feel the difference as soon as you step inside. Every detail is built around reducing stress for patients, clients, and the clinical team.
A caseload that keeps you sharp
You will work across first opinion and ECC, including medical and surgical cases, advanced imaging, and rehabilitation. The variety is real and so is the opportunity to deepen your skills in the areas you love.
A genuinely supportive culture
The team is known for kindness, humility, and a no ego approach to veterinary work. They value communication, respect, and empathy. They build each other up rather than compete. These values are lived, not laminated.
Space to grow your interests
Whether your future lies in a certificate, a clinical specialism, or building leadership skills, they invest in your goals with both funding and genuine encouragement.
A rota built for recovery
Choose between 7 on 14 off or 3 on 7 off, 4 on 7 off, with 13 hour nights. It gives you real time to rest, reset, and have a life outside of work.
Your Journey Here
In Your First Month:
You will take time to settle into the flow of night work in the hospital, build trust with the nursing and support teams, and familiarise yourself with systems, equipment, and the rhythm of the caseload.
In Your First 3 Months:
You will be confidently managing ECC cases, working collaboratively with the day teams, and identifying the clinical areas where you want to deepen your expertise.
In Your First 6 Months:
You will be a valued overnight presence, contributing ideas, shaping clinical standards, and potentially beginning certificate study with full support.
