An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, passionate, and experienced Out of Hours Emergency and Critical Care Veterinary Surgeon to join an accredited 24/7 hospital and emergency service clinic in Leeds.
Serving as both a thriving first-opinion practice and a referral hub for 16 surrounding surgeries, this modern hospital gives you the best of both worlds: a rich variety of emergency cases alongside advanced, high-quality, referral-level in-house care.
The air-conditioned, purpose-built facility features state-of-the-art equipment, including CT scanner, laparoscopy equipment, IDEXX laboratory, digital X-ray, ultrasound, ECG, IM3 dental machine, dental X-ray, orthopaedic surgical kit, endoscopy, and Tonopen.
📅 Shift Pattern & Rota:
- Rota: 7 nights on, 14 nights off
- Shifts: 8:00pm – 8:00am
- Consultations: Half-hour OOH consultations as standard
- Accommodation: No accommodation available
🏥 Team Support & Caseload:
- Night Team Support: Work alongside 1 senior OOH RVN and 1 OOH VCA, supported by a receptionist on shift until 10:00pm and a twilight RVN until midnight.
- In-House Expertise: Collaborative access to Surgical, Medical, Endosurgery, and Dentistry certificate holders for guidance on complex cases.
- Clinical Capabilities: Expected clinical procedures (with support and training) include oesophageal tube placements, Seldinger chest drain placements, silicone abdominal peritoneal drains, pig tail urinary catheters, TFAST/AFAST, endoscopy, negative pressure wound therapy, urinary catheterisation, caesareans, pyometra, exploratory laparotomy with enterotomy/enterectomy, and managing complex medical cases (e.g., Addisonian, ketoacidotic diabetics, severe pancreatitis).
👤 Candidate Requirements:
- Qualified Veterinary Surgeon with active RCVS registration.
- Essential experience in Emergency and Critical Care (ECC).
- Strong medical and surgical skills, dedicated to delivering excellent patient and client care.
- No visa sponsorship available for this position.
💰 Package & Benefits:
- Salary: £55,000 – £60,000 per annum (dependent on experience)
- CPD Allowance: Annual allowance with certificate sponsorship actively encouraged
