Are you an experienced surgical vet, looking for a new role?
We are looking to recruit an experienced surgical vet to work at our purpose-built, RCVS-accredited hospital in Wakefield. Our state-of-the-art facility features an on-site CT scanner and has a highly skilled team of 18 vets, including multiple certificate holders, handling a diverse and advanced surgical caseload.
The Role:
- Competitive salary - £60'000-£ 75'000 (pro rata) depending on certification, Advanced Practitioner status etc
- Full-time/part-time, permanent
- Fixed day off per week
- No regular OOH commitments
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Senior Veterinary Surgeon, with a surgical focus, to join our team. The role is based primarily at our Veterinary Hospital at Brindley Way, with one operating day at our branch surgery in Castleford. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality surgical and medical care, working alongside our Surgical Director, and performing advanced and more routine surgical procedures.
This role offers an excellent opportunity to utilise your surgical expertise in a supportive and professional environment, whilst benefiting from exceptional facilities, equipment, and a knowledgable and experienced team. The position is suitable for an experienced surgical professional, with a PgC or similar in surgery, or willing to work towards, experience in orthopaedics is ideal.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform surgical procedures, including routine operations and emergency interventions.
- Perform advanced operations; TPLO, Patella Luxation (with mentorship where needed).
- Take surgical referrals (working within remit of skills).
- Participate in weekend rota 1:4
- Monitor post-operative recovery and provide ongoing care as required.
- Collaborate with veterinary nurses and support staff to ensure smooth clinic operations.
- Stay informed about advancements in veterinary medicine through continuous professional development.
- Mentor junior colleagues, including VetGDP programme.

Requirements:
- Proven veterinary experience with a valid MRCVS membership.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex information clearly to pet owners and clinical teams.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail in record keeping and treatment planning.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Compassionate approach towards animals and their owners, demonstrating empathy and professionalism at all times. This role is ideal for motivated individuals committed to delivering exceptional animal care within a dynamic practice environment.
