The Role
We have an excellent opportunity for a Clinical Director looking to join our well-established team here at Wirral vets. We offer a varied caseload allowing our vets access to surgical cases every day, we also strongly believe in case continuity, ensuring you can see things through for your patients from start to finish. You will be responsible for leading our dedicated team over three sites. Day-to-day duties include overseeing the general running of the Group. Management duties will involve working in tandem with the Practice Manager, Area Director, and Area Support Manager along with a substantial amount of clinical work time operating and consulting. Mentoring and coaching less experienced Veterinary Surgeons is an important part of the role and something you must be willing to embrace. Due to the support available, it would be a great opportunity for someone looking to take the next step in their veterinary management career.
We are happy to offer flexibility in this role and we will accept both full/part time applications, but our standard shifts are 40 hours across 4 days per week. Hours are generally 8:30 am – 6:30 pm with 15-minute appointments. There are no out-of-hours, and Saturdays are worked on a rota system.
The salary for this role is up to £72,000 depending on experience. We can also offer a welcome bonus of up to £5,000 with additional relocation support of up to £3,000.
About Us
Our main premises at Upton was purpose-built in 2017 and provides a well-designed, spacious and functional working environment with 4 air-conditioned consult rooms. We have a large air-conditioned operating suite, X-ray and hydrotherapy suites, separate cat and dog wards, a huge prep room and a separate pharmacy. We have a comprehensive range of equipment including our in-house lab (Idexx Lasercyte Catalyst & Sedivue; Imagyst AI cytology reader) DR digital X-ray, dental X-ray, Doppler ultrasound, multiparameter anaesthetic monitors plus an extensive range of soft tissue and orthopaedic equipment and separate cat and dog kennelling. Upstairs we have a large staff room complete with a sofa and Nespresso machine, CD and PM offices, store, laboratory, isolation, and laundry rooms.
Our 2nd site is fully equipped with CR xray, dental xray, full idexx lab, modern anaesthetic units, multiparameter anaesthetic monitoring etc and the 3rd site is set up for more routine procedures with the ability to send more complex cases to the other sites.
Our staff include highly experienced and enthusiastic registered veterinary nurses, student veterinary nurses, animal nursing assistants, dedicated receptionists and our hardworking, dedicated Practice Manager who handles rotas, H & S, and payroll among other things!
All 3 sites are close to the M53 providing quick and easy access. The Wirral Peninsula is bounded by the River Mersey, River Dee, and the Irish Sea, and has beautiful beaches, plenty of 'green spaces', and some fabulous places to live potentially with the sea right on your doorstep. Kitesurfing, walking, sailing, kayaking etc are popular in the Wirral for those who like the outdoors. With Wales only 25 minutes away there are endless opportunities for those with any outdoor interests. Liverpool is only a 10-minute train or drive away for some culture, shopping, or just a 'night out'.
Applicant Requirements
We recognise that our people are fundamental to the success of our business. Investing in our people, premises and processes is at the heart of what we do. We would welcome applicants who are committed to continuing the positive culture of this team as this is just as important to us as clinical skills. Ideally, we would like the candidate to have some management or Clinical Director experience, but the role may suit an experienced Veterinary Surgeon looking to step up and learn new skills. You must be confident in clinical matters encountered in a small animal general practice and can lead and support the team, both clinical and non-clinical, and still have the enthusiasm and energy to help the practice and staff progress and flourish. A desire to be involved in the development and growth of the practice is vital. We have available enrolment on the IVC Evidensia Leadership Development Programme if this would be advantageous.
