What: National Equine Forum (NEF)

There is still time to book your ticket and be a part of the important annual equestrian discussions at this year’s National Equine Forum, 7th March 2024. A very limited number of face-to-face or live stream tickets are still available. 

The programme and full speaker details are available to view now on the NEF website. Q&A opportunities have been built in at the end of all the main sessions to give the audience and the livestream viewers a chance to engage with the discussions.

This year a panel of speakers will focus on advancements and challenges in equine health, management, welfare and the environment, and industry accessibility.

The Equine Industry in a Changing World will include contributions from Defra, an update on the Manifesto for the Horse and progress the on licensing of equestrian premises in Scotland.

Environmental sustainability and land management will look at how the equine sector can take positive, practical steps to support the environment, with responsible management practices including the use of a carbon calculator.

Equine health care team will explore how vets, vet nurses, horse owners and allied professionals can work together to best effect for the good of the horse.

Equine health updates will report on the latest developments in the donkey skin trade and how NGOs such as The Donkey Sanctuary, Brooke, SPANA and World Horse Welfare are uniting to make changes. There will also be an update on the CANTER initiative, launched at NEF in 2023 with the aim of combating wormer resistance.

Industry accessibility will focus on accessibility across the sector as well as diversity, inclusion and belonging.  It will include a case study with input from two equestrian centres.

There will also be two topical discussions on how the National Minimum Wage is impacting the equestrian sector and the path to the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. 

The day will conclude with the Memorial Lecture, in the form of an interview with Great Yorkshire Show innovator Amanda Stoddart-West who will talk about the changes she has introduced to the show and the effects they have had on horse welfare.  The winner of the Sir Colin Spedding Award 2024 will also be announced.
