Animal health company, Bimeda®, is pleased to announce the launch of BIMACURE, the UK’s first generic intrauterine cefapirin suspension for cattlefor the treatment of subacute and chronic endometritis in cows.  BIMACURE contains 500 mg cefapirin per syringe, with the format delivering excellent syringeability for ease of use. This launch provides veterinary surgeons with a reliable, targeted therapeutic option for use in cows at least 14 days after parturition.

Endometritis is a common condition affecting 10-15% of cows in the days or weeks after calving, although some 80-90% of cows have some degree of bacterial contamination post-calving.1,2 Both clinical endometritis and sub-clinical disease can result in lower fertility and reduced milk yield, as well as systemic effects and increased culling rates, with considerable economic impact for farmers.

BIMACURE is supplied in packs of ten sets each of cefapirin syringes, administration catheters and gloves for on-farm convenience. To ensure efficient administration, the catheter and syringe connection have been specially designed to avoid ‘pop offs’ at critical moments.

Rachel Mallet, Technical & Commercial Veterinarian for Bimeda® UK says she is delighted Bimeda are launching this latest product innovation for cattle, “BIMACURE is a great addition to our growing large animal portfolio of veterinary pharmaceuticals. Effectively managing the post-partum period is key to ensuring the long-term viability and productivity of the herd and we are very pleased to be able to offer vets and producers a solution and format that is designed to meet their needs. Veterinarian feedback about the product from other markets has been extremely positive. This launch reinforces our commitment to deliver high‑quality, responsible, and effective animal health solutions.”

Veterinary surgeons who need to find out more can contact Bimeda® on 01248 725400 or [email protected]. BIMACURE is now available to order from veterinary wholesalers.

Use of BIMACURE should follow the Summary of Product Characteristics (SPC) found on the VMD or NOAH Compendium websites.
