Krka UK has unveiled a new set of practical resources designed to support veterinary professionals in the early recognition and management of osteoarthritis (OA). The three-part factsheet series - now available on Krka’s Veterinary Knowledge Hub - has been developed in collaboration with specialist clinician in veterinary orthopaedics, Professor Stuart Carmichael FRCVS.

Drawing on expert insight from Krka’s popular OA podcast series, the resources expand on the clinical advice shared and translate it into accessible, consult-ready materials. Designed for use in everyday practice, they offer quick-reference guidance to support earlier recognition of OA, effective treatment planning, and improved communication with pet owners.

The three factsheet chapters cover understanding OA, creating a management plan and supporting pets and their owners. Each section is grounded in evidence-based approaches and shaped by Professor Carmichael’s extensive knowledge of the pathogenesis of pain in patients with OA and experience in the diagnosis, contextualised treatment, and long-term care of patients with OA.

Importantly, the resources encourage veterinary teams to adapt their approach to the needs of each case - supporting a flexible, patient-centred mindset in everyday consults. “What works is the thing that works best for the dog, the owner and the practice in that moment,” explains Professor Carmichael. “And part of the art is trying to get that right rather than being dogmatic about a certain type of treatment.”

Renzo Di Florio, Krka’s Technical Veterinary Adviser, played a key role in shaping the materials to ensure they meet the needs of busy clinical teams. “In first-opinion practice, consult time is limited and there’s a lot to cover,” he says. “These factsheets bring together expert advice in a format that’s quick to reference and easy to apply in consults. They’re designed to help vets feel more confident in their approach to OA, especially when time is tight.”

To further support veterinary professionals in managing OA, Professor Carmichael has delivered a webinar expanding on and adding to the resources with further clinical insights. He and Renzo will also be presenting together at the London Vet Show this November, delivering a dedicated Exhibitor Showcase session focused on osteoarthritis in practice. This session will take place on Thursday 20th November at 14.00 in Exhibitor Showcase Theatre 2.

The OA factsheets are now available and can be accessed here:  Veterinary knowledge hub | Krka.  For more information email [email protected]
