MSD Animal Health Launches Veterinary-led Roadshow Across The UK To Encourage Tailored Parasite Protection

MSD Animal Health has announced The Big Pet Parasite Check, a nationwide roadshow of pop-up veterinary stations, offering free personalised parasite risk assessments and one-to-one flea and tick checks with veterinary professionals.
Visiting six dog-friendly events across the UK from summer through to winter, these pop-ups will help owners to understand how factors such as lifestyle, environment and local parasite prevalence can influence the protection their pet may need.
The roadshow locations will include:
- North East Dog Festival, County Durham – Saturday 22nd August
- All About Dogs, Norfolk – Sunday 30th August
- All About Dogs, Knebworth – Saturday 12th September
- Dogfest at the Palace, Oxford – Saturday 3rd – Sunday 4th October
- Top Dogs Day Out, Glasgow – Saturday 17th October
- Pawfestivities, Kent – Saturday 28th November
Every pet has a different parasite risk profile. Factors such as where pets are walked, whether they mix with other animals, travel habits and household environment can all influence exposure risk. The Big Pet Parasite Check has been designed to help owners understand these differences and encourage more informed discussions with their veterinary team.
By meeting owners while they are out with their dogs, The Big Pet Parasite Check will make practical, veterinary-led advice easier to access, addressing common misconceptions about parasite risk and highlighting the need for parasite protection to be considered all year round.
At each event, veterinary professionals and MSD Animal Health parasiticide experts will check pets for signs of fleas and ticks, discuss lifestyle and local exposure risks, and showcase the value of visiting a vet practice to discuss suitable protection options.
The interaction will also enable veterinary experts to address pet owner knowledge gaps about the risk of fleas and ticks, helping them arrive to the consult room better informed on the options that are available and may be suitable for their pet.
Louisa The Vet (louisa_the_vet), a veterinary expert with more than 60,000 followers on social media, is backing the campaign and will be attending North East Dog Festival on Saturday 22nd August to help spread the word. Louisa will be supporting MSD Animal Health experts on site, engaging pet owners about the importance of understanding their pet's individual parasite risk and seeking tailored veterinary advice on protection, amplifying this all via her social media channels.
In addition to receiving expert advice on flea and ticks and a personalised risk profile for their dog, visitors who take part at the events will receive a complimentary goodie bag containing helpful information on parasite protection and pet care.
Sian Stockford, Veterinary Technical Lead, Companion Animal Business Unit at MSD Animal Health, said: "Many pet owners are surprised to learn that parasite risk is not the same for every pet. Lifestyle, environment and behaviour can all influence exposure to fleas, ticks and worms.
"The Big Pet Parasite Check has been created to bring those conversations into the real world, helping owners better understand their pet's individual risk and encouraging them to seek tailored advice from their veterinary practice.
"By meeting pet owners at events across the UK, we hope to educate why parasite protection should be considered all year round and that veterinary teams are best placed to provide personalised recommendations."
Alongside The Big Pet Parasite Check, MSD Animal Health will also be engaging vet practices across the UK with a suite of useful materials and a brand-new risk checker tool which will support veterinary teams in delivering more consistent, personalised parasite risk discussions and recommendations based on individual pet needs.
