Nearly Four Years Without A Family, Merseyside Dog Is Waiting For Someone To Choose Her

Dogs Trust Merseyside is urgently appealing for a loving forever home for Nala, an eight-year-old dog who has now spent an astonishing 1,400 days waiting for her chance at family life. Nala is now just 60 days away from marking four years in kennels, and Dogs Trust desperately wants to find her a home to call her own before she reaches that heartbreaking milestone.
She has spent half of her life in kennels but has received very little interest. Centre staff believe her older age, her need for an adult-only home, and the ongoing training for her reactivity towards other dogs have all contributed to her being overlooked. Yet those who know her best say she is an absolute joy, with the brightest smile.
Despite her lengthy stay, Nala continues to blossom. An active and intelligent dog, she enjoys spending time outdoors, especially playing in water. Thanks to dedicated training sessions with the Dogs Trust behaviour team and her favourite volunteer, Jonathan, a volunteer of 20 years, she has grown tremendously in confidence over the years. She is self-assured and loves to make her own choices. Continuing with the routines and boundaries they have set for her will help their lovely lady settle in her new home. Once she gets to know you, she's an affectionate, playful girl who loves cuddles and enjoys spending quality time with her favourite people.
So far, this year the Merseyside Rehoming Centre team has successfully rehomed 307 dogs and 15 are long-term dogs like Nala. They are hoping she is next to show someone just how special she is and find a loving home.
This charming girl is hoping for a calm, dedicated, adult-only home with adopters who take the time to really get to know her. She prefers quieter walking locations and would benefit from owners who can continue supporting her training around dogs, as she can sometimes be vocal around pooches and unfamiliar people. For this reason, Nala would be happiest as the only dog in the home.
With the right support and boundaries, Nala has so much potential to grow and truly flourish into a wonderful companion.

"Nala came into our care in 2022, and we really don't want to see her spend her fourth year without a home. This sweetheart recently spent a few nights with a member of our staff and was the perfect house guest! She has worked so hard with our team, made incredible progress, and has so much love to give but is still overlooked.
We know a committed home is out there for her, and we hope this appeal helps her find the happy ending she truly deserves.’’
Nala is lovingly known as a Dogs Trust 'Underdog', a term used by the charity for dogs who have been waiting for their forever home for more than six months. These dogs often require additional training, ongoing veterinary care, or have specific rehoming needs, while others, like Nala, are simply overlooked.
