BEVA

Gavin Mitchell and Teresa Hollands have been awarded honorary membership of BEVA in recognition of their outstanding achievements, unwavering commitment and exceptional contribution to equine veterinary medicine and the wider profession. They were both formally presented with honorary membership by BEVA President Imogen Burrows on Thursday 10 September 2026.

Gavin Mitchell served as MD of BCF Technologies for more than 20 years, during which time he built a relationship with BEVA that extended far beyond a traditional industry partnership. That relationship continued after BCF’s acquisition by IMV Imaging and Gavin’s move to become IMV’s Global Companion Animal Director.  Although not a veterinary surgeon, Gavin has been a passionate champion of the equine veterinary profession, playing an instrumental role in supporting BEVA's practical training, Congress and CPD events. He consistently supplied the latest imaging technology, expert technical support and knowledgeable staff, helping to deliver high-quality learning experiences for countless equine vets.

“What truly sets Gavin apart is his personal commitment to making a difference,” said David Mountford, Chief Executive of BEVA. “His enthusiasm, generosity and unwavering willingness to go above and beyond have become hallmarks of his relationship with BEVA.”

“He has inspired those around him, built lasting friendships across the profession and enriched the BEVA community in ways that extend far beyond education alone. As Gavin steps away from IMV, Honorary Membership recognises not only his exceptional support of BEVA, but the lasting impact he has had on equine veterinary practice and the people within it.”

Teresa Hollands is an internationally respected clinical equine nutritionist whose contribution to equine health, veterinary education and welfare spans more than 30 years. As Senior Lecturer in Veterinary Nutrition at the University of Surrey, and previously a lecturer at numerous UK veterinary schools, she has inspired generations of veterinary surgeons and firmly established nutrition as an essential component of equine healthcare.

Teresa has worked extensively within the equine feed industry, advised the equine members of Team GB, contributed to national standards through the British Equine Trade Association Feed Committee, and supported the British Horse Society's Equine Health and Welfare Advisory Committee.

“Through her longstanding collaboration with BEVA, Teresa has played a leading role in tackling equine obesity, equipping veterinary surgeons with the knowledge and confidence to address one of the most significant welfare challenges facing horses today,” said David Mountford. “Her lifelong commitment to education, welfare and clinical excellence makes her a truly deserving recipient of BEVA Honorary Membership.”

Honorary membership is awarded to those who have made a significant contribution to the equine veterinary profession. Individuals are nominated by BEVA members and then approved by BEVA Council and at the BEVA AGM. They receive free BEVA membership for life.
