The RCVS Knowledge Awards, which celebrate achievements across the professions for initiatives that contribute to advancing the quality of veterinary care and demonstrate a commitment to using an evidence-based approach to veterinary medicine, are now open for applications to the 2023 awards.

The awards, which will be open for applications until 13 January 2023, introduces two new award categories for Antimicrobial Stewardship and Canine Cruciate Outcomes. The Veterinary Evidence Student Awards and the Quality Improvement Awards also continue.

In their first year, the Canine Cruciate Outcome Awards will recognise and celebrate individuals and teams who are using Quality Improvement initiatives alongside RCVS Knowledge’s Canine Cruciate Registry (CCR) to monitor and improve their canine cruciate surgery outcomes. Applications are invited by surgeons and teams who are using the CCR.

Also in their first year, the Antimicrobial Stewardship Awards aim to showcase practical examples where individuals and teams are improving responsible antimicrobial prescribing. The awards are open to anyone who works within the veterinary industry, including those from a practice setting, educators, and students from undergraduate and postgraduate education. These awards are divided into farm animal, equine, and companion animal categories.

The Veterinary Evidence Student Awards, managed by RCVS Knowledge’s journal Veterinary Evidence, enables students to enhance their academic and research skills by writing a Knowledge Summary and submitting it to Veterinary Evidence. All submitting students have the chance of being published in the peer-reviewed, open access veterinary journal. The Veterinary Evidence Student Awards are open to veterinary students worldwide.

The Quality Improvement Awards showcase the implementation of Quality Improvement (QI) techniques which drive improvement within the professions. The Quality Improvement Awards welcome applications from anyone who works within the veterinary industry or veterinary education. This includes educators, learners and everyone working in a practice setting.

Executive Director at RCVS Knowledge, Chris Gush said, “I am pleased to see the expansion of our award categories, which highlights the professions increasing commitment to an evidence-based approach to veterinary medicine as well as continuous improvement.

“Our awards showcase excellence within the professions, and we look forward to receiving applications from veterinary professionals, teams and students from both the UK and abroad.”

The awards are open for applications until 13 January 2023.
