SPILLERS Brand Celebrates International Women’s Day
Mars Horsecare, home of the SPILLERS™ brand, is celebrating International Women’s Day on 8th March this year with a shout out to some of the key players within its team of Directors.
International Women's Day provides a platform for honouring the extraordinary achievements of women who have shaped history and continue to drive change.
Mars Horsecare is committed to gender equality and actively drives initiatives to positively impact women’s advancement in the workplace. Currently the brand has five women at the helm within its Senior Leadership Team. Their contributions are not only keeping the brand at the forefront of equine nutrition but also inspiring future generations of women to succeed in business.
Fiona Cayzer is General Manager for Mars Horsecare. Appointed GM in 2024, Fiona joined Mars Horsecare in 2013 and was previously Chief Financial Officer.
Fiona said: “I feel incredibly fortunate to work for a company that prioritises equity and fosters an environment that allows associates to be themselves at work. As a result, we are a team and business filled with inspiring women; this is both empowering and humbling. It’s a privilege to work alongside individuals who bring unique perspectives, determination and passion for what they do every day, enabling us to deliver on our purpose of making a better world for horses.”
Dr Pat Harris MA, PhD, VetMB, DipECVCN, MRCVS & RCVS Specialist in clinical nutrition (equine) is Mars Horsecare’s Director of Science. She is also head of the Equine Studies Group at Waltham Petcare Science Institute, which underpins the science behind the brand. Pat joined Mars Petcare in 1995. She was ranked in one review last year at #192 among the best scientists in the world, in the field of animal science and veterinary and was the #1 ranked scientist working just on horses in the UK.
Pat said: “My role involves incorporating our scientific research into our products and advice.
I am proud to have been a part of the Mars team for the past three decades, actively continuing to improve our scientific knowledge and in turn, the health and welfare of equines.”
Clare Barfoot, Marketing and Research and Development Director has been with Mars Horsecare for 26 years. Clare has been instrumental in developing SPILLERS’ products and has created some of the industry’s most iconic feeds. One of fewer than 20 people in the UK to be registered as an equine nutritionist, Clare has previously been a Care-Line Nutritionist and then Research and Development Manager for the brand.
Clare said: “It’s a joy and a privilege to work with a group of such inspiring women on our leadership team, with the sole purpose of making a better world for horses. Throughout my career with Mars Horsecare, I’ve always loved hearing from owners on how our products have made a real difference to their horses’ lives. It makes all our hard work worthwhile, and I thank my lucky stars every day that I get to do a job I love.”
Sarah Dawson is Sales Director at Mars Horsecare. She has been a member of the team for 13 years, initially joining as a competition nutritionist. She now oversees the trade, end-user and international sales.
Sarah said: Throughout my last 13 years at Mars I have been privileged to work with a highly knowledgeable and passionate team, who strive to formulate, manufacture and sell high quality products that really do make a difference to our customers and the horses they feed. The commitment across our entire leadership team to develop and inspire people is admirable; I feel very fortunate to be part of such a great group of leaders, in a role that allows me to combine my passion for horses with my career.”
Milly Garlick joined the Mars Horsecare team as Commercial Director just over a year ago. She prides herself on sourcing the best quality, affordable, and sustainable raw materials to ensure that the brand provides the best service to its customers.
Milly said: “I consider myself very lucky to be able to combine my work with my love for horses in my role. A passion for horses runs in the family; my sons Bertie (8) and Charlie (6) are keen horsemen and are extremely proud to wear their SPILLERS branded coats to all their Pony Club activities and competitions. They tell everyone they meet that SPILLERS is the best feed in the world!”
Join Mars Horsecare in celebrating International Women’s Day to recognise the incredible women who are breaking barriers and shaping futures. Through their work and dedication, they continue to pave the way for a more equal and inclusive world.
